“There’s really nothing much you can say about it other than you need to go back to work.”

Quotes like this just pizz me off. If a **** poor 4-8 season isn't enough for him to come out and say "yeah 4-8 was terrible and we're not going to repeat it" then what the hell is it going to take?

"The Past is the Past". That quote reminds me of the joke from the late, great Mitch Hedburg (I'll paraphrase, thereby making it less funny) - When showing someone of photo of you and you say this is what I looked like when I was younger - it's true for any photo of you.

I do agree the going back to work line is not very inspiring to a fan base eager for some blue sky, which is generally the idea of these I-Club functions - at least it should be.

Edit - I've now achieved doctorate status with my 1500th post. A true testament to me having too much time on my hands.

we'll see the blue sky, we look up at the sky, after 3rd and 3 goes for 2 yards, and we look up and say what the hell just happend?

/I kid.

I would not expect Ferentz to say anything else. Going back to work is all he can do. Get these guys to execute on offense. Develop the young talent on the D. Talk is cheap.

Yes, talk is cheap - at least the $25 it costs to attend one of these functions. However, tell me that the football team is going to be a lot better than last year, that you expect to challenge for a conference title and go to a good bowl game. I understand it's just some red meat for us to chew on over the summer. Who's really going to hold him to it if they fall flat on their face again? That's the junk I want to hear, at least at this time of year, particularly this year.

He says practically the same thing after good years.

yep it would be funny to see a compilation of videos showing his interviews and ask people to guess whether it followed a win or a loss or good season or bad season.

I don't care what he says to the press about it. All I care about is that what needs to get fixed gets fixed. We all know that he gives the media as little as possible and that it's coaches talk. IMO he's right, you can't fix the past so there's no point in dwelling on it. That said use it as a tool, figure out how to improve, and then put it in the rearview mirror, because there are no do overs.

Past is prologue...

Come on Kirk, use last years disappointing season to light a fire under this team's azz

I don't know about anyone else...but it appears from the player interviews I've seen that there is a serious fire under all *****. IMO, there is an attitude about where we are that is much different than the previous years. If you have seen BF's comments about the offensive line, it's subtle praise in certain areas, but also a public, we are no where close to where we need to be and we haven't accomplished anything other than working harder. I like the attitude. Scherff's interviews have been especially focused. It's really does appear to be a "chip on shoulder, punish the opponent" frame of mind. I like it.

“In my mind, we sat there at the end of the season and we’re 4-8,” Ferentz told Clinton County I-Club members at their annual banquet at Wild Rose Casino. “There’s really nothing much you can say about it other than you need to go back to work.”

And that what I got to say about Vietnam.

Just insert the words in bold and that's good enough for me.

I caught grief for saying "I don't care what you have done up to this point, I only care what you are going to do from here on out". It applies to this team just as is does to an all 5 star team or a returning NC team. Forward is the only way to go.

you mean like a total revamping of the coaching staff, those kinds of changes?

Yeah, like almost entire coaching staff replaced over two year period and completely new offensive scheme (which I dislike)? Like those types of changes that will never happen under kf?

If Kirk's team doesn't bring it hard this season his Iowa coaching career could well become something that is in the past...

ferentz was talking about the past 2012 season. This was after he hired a new OC and put in a new offense. So, if you are talking to boosters in this context, you could say, "We are gonna continue to build upon the new offense from last year and we've also hired some new asst. coaches with the goal to enhance those changes by better coaching the players concerning the system". Something like that.

I wasn't all bothered like some were with his original comments.

Man, I can't wait for the season to start... any season. This same crap over and over is getting old.
