Oglesby, many Iowa targets in DSM this week

The state tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines started yesterday, and Class 4A tips off tomorrow.

Here are some notes on first round:

-Oglesby's CR Washington team meets Marcus Paige's Linn-Mar team.

-Waukee features a couple of future D1 kids (I don't believe Iowa is recruiting any of them at this point). They'll play Iowa City West. West is young team w/ 4 of top 6 scorers being frosh or sophs.

-Sioux City East (Woodbury and Thok, enough said) will meet Ankeny. Ankeny has a couple kids that I think will play at the D1 level as well, most notably sophomore center Ted Friedman.

-Uthoff (I know, who cares about him! :D) leads his CR Jeffereson team against Des Moines Hoover. As mentioned in another thread, Hoover is led by junior point guard Dwight Sistrunk. He is the son of former Iowa DB Dwight Sistrunk Sr.

All four of these games will be great. If you want to see the complete schedule and breakdown of each game, here is the link.

Anyone else heading down to "The Well?" I am excited to get down there tonight to see SC Heelan (Wes Staten) play tonight, and I'll be at all four 4A games tomorrow.

How old am I that Dwight Sistrunk has a son that's a high school junior and that John Derby, Roy Marble, and Greg Stokes have kids in college?

Looking forward to your full report on all Iowa commits or potential recruits from the state tourny. Looks like a great chance to see many of them in action.

I don't want to go there....

Question on Stokes' kid, Darius that is, how has he been holding up in Iowa practices? How has the weight gain been going for him? I have no idea how Fran holds practice, and whether they are open to observers.

I am interested to see what Stokes' future holds for the Hawks. He had some outside skills, but then sprouted. That could make for a player, assuming he can fill in. Last I saw of him he was a thin one.

Anyone know whether Francis or anyone else from the Iowa staff is there? I'm assuming they would be.

I don't know which Iowa coaches will be there, but surely someone will be. I will be courtside, but will keep my eyes peeled for Fran, or any other coaches.

About 3 weeks ago, CR Wash beat SC East in a regular season game at Wells Fargo, and Fran was there.

I'll be tweeting these details as well as game details all day starting around 1:30 and going until about 10 PM.

@ChrisDouglas515 if you want to follow.

*Warning, I tweet A LOT during games that I am at. :)

What about Jake Lewis of Dallas Center-Grimes? He's a sophomore guard. Quite a player. Plays tonight

**he's my cousin (this was a joke)

How did 3 Cedar Rapids teams and an Iowa City team make it to state?

I'll be at his game tonight! I just did the math, and right now I will tentatively cover 16 games this week starting tonight... Might need to scale that back a bit considering I still work full days at my actual job Thurs and Fri.

Thanks, Chris. Will follow you on Twitter.

As I was preparing for the SC Heelan/Dubuque Wahlert tonight, I found out that Eric May's younger brother is Wahlert's second-leading scorer.

I remember attending the championship games in both 3A and 4A in 2008.

That night, a Wahlert junior who I had never heard of hit a 40-footer at the buzzer to give them the 3A crown. It was Eric May.

Right after that game, I watched Gatens and IC High win the 4A title.

Maybe I will see some future Hawks have great weeks this week too and be able to look back on this week's games in the same way a couple years down the road!

Think Gordon Hayward, but more awesome-ness :D
