Welp, there will be a house divided here come Saturday.

Me: started following Iowa in 1970. From Hampton Iowa. Still vividly remember listening to the last second BB loss to Jacksonville on WHO. Graduated from Iowa. Hawks are in my DNA. But now I live in western Illinois.

Wifey: born/raised/indoctrinated to all things Illinois. She's a bit older than me. Same DNA issue. No compromise, no quarter.

Should be a fun(?) two hours...

Same here.. all my family is Iowa born, Dad working for an Iowa company got transferred to Illinois early 70's Me being the oldest spent all my childhood summers back on the grandparents farm and became a natural Iowa fan. The rest of family flipped (sold out) to be Illini fans, to be in good graces with the locals I guess . I've listened to arrogant Illini fans for over 35 years !! I hate the Illini as much as Frye hates Nebbie +1 !! So this is already getting interesting. Locals feel relieved they got us but at same time apprehensive about what we can do . Luckily short turn around here at work (just today) LOL Did get a nice call out for the Hawks in the morning meeting though.

I was looking back at the first game. Was at home but a 6 point game. Why did I think it was more than that? The tallest team in all the land but we went toe to toe in most all the stats including rebounding(38-31 wasn't bad) and points in the paint and second chance points. We had a huge amount of bench points with Cam playing only 8 minutes and Folgueiras shooting 2-9 and only 8 points. Stirtz only 12. The team shot 40% to their 49%.

Some guys are playing quite better now than before. 2.5 months ago. If we get our shots and hit them. If Alvaro is the one that has 14,14,16 and big shots instead of the version 2.5 months ago. If so and Sage can bring it that will free up Stirtz. Not sure he(Stirtz) will go out with a 5-17 12 point game like the last time anyway but he has more help now as the team has come together.

My first off the cuff thought was the run might just gonna end but we have a good shot. Gotta slow down the freshman Wagler who killed us that game who shot 4-7 from three and hit 5 of the Illinis 9 FT's.

Should be the same again low to mid-70's game. Figure 3-5 points final score to the team that can shoot better. Can't let them run out big like the first game or Ohio State and play from behind. Keep it manageable even Nebraska jumped out but 10 was not a killer. 15 or more like Ill. went up 18 and OSU went up 16 in the second half is just a bit too much to come back from. Of course the "D" and stopping their streaks/runs is important. Should be a heck of a game.

Because Iowa got spanked in that game, down double digits for a lot of the game and down 17 with 11 minutes to go. Iowa made a late run to make it interesting.
Yep, but besides that I was thinking it was 74-65 or 75-64 as the final score. Still thinking it will be different. The first game after the "Flu game" at Minny 5 days later. Keeping close enough and get through the next "x" minutes and be there at the end of the game bodes well for a team that has a good coach and has meshed together now that a couple of guys have stepped up. We shouldn't get down in the same way regardless of venue but give Illinois credit for being good, playing some good D and this is a their year kind of run.

They have lost the last 4 close games. All went to OT. Don't think they have been challenged on "D" in big possessions yet this tourney which has been their issue in the past. Houston unfortunately still offensively challenged goes home early yet again. We have more of a chance to test Illinois out on that front and see if they can get the big stop or do we hit the big shot.

We came out as flat as any game this year .... fought back and gave them scare so....a good start, good D and we can play with them, even though we are definitely outmatched in the personnel department they've got 5 ex pro players from soviet block nations lol

Yep, I was bloviating about how the game seemed better or worse than I might remember. The point being not sure how much stock I give it being right after the flu ran through the team. Still was surprised at the stats esp. with the size difference and how the game went.

Hopefully we came out flat and we are both better now as a team and totally ready to go this time and turn the table and get the jump on them. Nice to play from ahead more like the Florida game. :)

I gave you a thumbs up just for using the word bloviating.

I've lived in a house divided for thirty years.

But this year the wife's Badgers are looooooong gone.

To pull off this monumental task we may have to go with the same lineup we went with for the majority of past night's game. Spread them out on defense.. Combs could be a key.

I'd have to go back and see how Wisconsin beat them twice. Suspect Boyd was a factor.

Other issue is I'm not sure if illinois' guards will play as poorly as hoiberg did last night. Can't be underestimated how off he was last night.
