Neuter the Nits

A few things:

* Coach Ben usually rips into his players after losses, but in his postgame he seemed to acknowledge that defensively he faces a dilemma with this team: normally he likes to run players off the 3 pt line, but if you guard hard out top, the opponent drives past you for layups; if you sag, they nail the 3s. It's the difference between Power 4 conferences and the others.

* It was refreshing to hear him admit that his guards have trouble keeping opponents in front of them, i.e. can't keep them from penetrating. He's been reluctant to say that publicly for some reason, even tho it's been obvious to everyone, instead blaming it on "we weren't connected, blah blah blah". Today he admitted that when teams go strictly ISO, it's a tough matchup for the Hawks.

* Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to the other team. The Nits were on fire from 3. It happens.

* Very odd to not have Fulgeuiras play for the last 5 minutes, seemingly replaced by....Hausen? Granted, F had a couple bad turnovers, but man, if I need a basket -- which Iowa did the final 5 minutes -- I'd want him on the floor. 5 total offensive pts in the final 4.5 minutes would have won the game. Think about that.
When asked why Hausen was playing so much at the end, Coach Mc said, "The assistant coaches handle most of the substitutions." Which was interesting news.
