Nebraska Post Game

Pryce’s last name: Pronunciation is exactly how it looks. SANDfort. Sandford is not his name. Discussed at length on BT Radio/SXM this morning.

Stirtz made himself some money last night. His offensive game is obvious and effective, but if you are a scout watching that game, and you saw a kid play 40-minutes and functionally shut down a Top 10 teams best player, guarding him 1-1 almost the entire game. And he was giving up 3 inches. That was more impressive than his offense last night.
It will be interesting to see Ben play in the NBA when he does not have to do absolutely everything and has 4 other capable guys on the court and cannot just key on him.

I don't understand what's happened with the offense. Earlier this season was some of the best ball movement I think I've ever seen from an Iowa team. It was part of what got me so excited. McCollum, facilitated by the play of a senior PG, was insisting that his team relentlessly pursue a good shot, even if it meant giving up decent shots or the shot clock expiring. I thought it was beautiful basketball, and the same thing Drake showed last year. It takes a special group of kids to buy into that, and maybe partially explained what McCollum was looking for in recruits.

I'm not sure what's happened lately, but the crisp ball movement isn't always there.
Well, it's the competition in the BIG. It's the fact now they are playing top teams, and some are just bad matchups, like Purdue.

He's a husker, we're under no obligation to get his name right.

From here on out I will refer to him as Bruce Landford.

Nebraska's defense has a lot of zone concepts (at least that is what I saw). They defend areas, not people. Hard to run a beautiful motion offense against what is basically a zone defense. People are figuring out how to defend Iowa as well.

I don't feel sorry for Bruce and his family. He transferred to his home state schools' biggest rival. Getting booed and jeered was part of that decision. He also put a target on his back by being so good for them when he wasn't for us! I don't think anyone would boo Freeman if Creighton came to town. If anything, we should be thanking Creighton for taking him. That all said, I would prefer that we be a smidge classier than chanting F bombs on national TV.

The Landford family ain't hurting and Bruce is gettin a bag. I don't have any ill will towards him as a person, but he's not even 0.0000483% a "former" Hawkeye in my book. Jumping to the huskers is akin to defecting from the US Army and fighting for the Germans in 1943. He made the choice he made, he lives with it, and I'm sure he's fine with it. No love, no respect for me. It ain't personal but the dude doesn't exist in my universe. The coach he plays for is even worse...satanic spawn of the two programs and cities I hate the most.

If he crosses the state line into Iowa, the Highway Patrol should incarcerate him and file treason
charges

If you watch the postgame McCollum talks quite a bit about this actually. He says fred hoebag's defensive sets are super wacky and unique and not something you ever see in college basketball. Guessing it's NAB style sets coming through.
Yeah Neb was in a matchup zone of sorts where they'd switch off on our screens up top when Stritz used them but behind that 3 guys were all playing zone. They were trying to prevent Stirtz from being able to turn the corner much. They did a pretty good job all things considering. Giving up 57 pts on the road will usually win you games.

So Iowa fans boo'd everytime Sandbox touched the ball...

...any bets that the Nebraska crowd will be cheering everytime he touches the ball in Lincoln?

They are really fun to watch

Ben is an excellent coach and it is usually a pleasure to watch the Lads play his style of ball

Very enjoyable season to watch
Putting an asterisk on George Raveling leaving Mr. Davis a loaded team, coach is about to have the 2nd most wins for a first year at Iowa BB coach. Currently tied at 19 wins and he started with everybody leaving. Okay we had a flu game with Minny but otherwise only one truly bad game with Maryland.

They are limited on size and some other areas but he gets nice potential out of them. More discipline than Frans teams and they were what they are pretty early unlike Fran still tinkering well into the conference season.

Lot less bad halves this year and defense and scoring defense. Like last year 101 to Maryland and I don't think Wisconsin will score 116 against us tomorrow. And those runs against up are much fewer and far between. We answer sooner without the supposed offensive efficiency. We actually have jumped on people a bit more though good teams like ISU and Purdue are gonna come back on this team till we get bigger and can defend the rim and rebound more and have more scoring depth.

Think if we held on to a couple of people. Stupid Freeman could have been a big man here instead of sucking at Creighton. He would be better off but the grass is always greener. Hold on to Sandfort as well and Nebraska is less and we are ahead of them with those two guys. Still it has been a solid year and this team looks like a team should where you can predict what and see the discipline and minimizes the damage better than Frans team did. Fran back this year with all his guys and I don't think they are better than 19-7 at this point not to mention they look better, people seem starting to get more interested, and it is prettier with less ugly wide open lane on defense and more runs up and down for and against us and less times scrambling to come back at the end and all the odd substitution like trying to find something instead of knowing what to put out there. And letting people sit with 2 fouls and time for the opponent to have a nice run to end the half crap. You make your bed you sleep in it is the saying and this team keeps themselves in better position. Plus no red face screaming hair flopping Fran events. Annd, and we have more confidence going into games that we have a chance including at Wisky tomorrow. Quite refreshing and the future bodes well.

Most Excellent take

We could have used Josh DIx especially and Sandfort would have added some fire power

Freeman would have certainly helped off the bench

I liked Fran but his blowhard act was really getting old

Ben and The Lads certainly are fun to watch and their teamwork is top rate for certain

I do believe we are a lock for The Dance, the wheels would have to come off completely not
the be invited

It could perhaps come down to one win the the Big Tourney, would be rather extreme but it would
certainly be better to at least win the first game

At halftime of the Nebraska-Penn State game the announcers have declared Pryce Sandfort
the Second Coming of Christ

Huskers are leading Penn State 38-20 at their house

Damn

The Athlete has the Hawks in the South Region at Houston as an 8 Seed
Playing SMU

If we win we would have the advantage of playing #1 Connecticut

I pity the Huskies and Bobby Hurley, the massive prick
