NCAA Tournament Expanding.

Just set it to a field of 128 and get it over with, we don't need this slow drip of continued expansion. I can't wait to watch a 1 seed play a 32 seed.

Pretty much kills the already dead NIT, which the only sad part about that is the history behind the tournament which most people probably could careless about or even remember that it used to be the main post season tournament. I couldn't even tell you who won the NIT this year.

This is a big nothing burger, amigos. I don't even start watching non-Iowa tournament games until the round of 32 and even then they have to be pretty interesting for me to tune in. In fact, on YouTube TV they have the option where you can set it to record all tourney games. If there's some weird thing that happens in the first round like the University of Poughkeepsie School of Mines-Oneida Campus Muskrats beating Duke on a buzzer beater I can just go back and watch it later.

The tournament will always be 64 teams, this is just adding a few de facto wild card games to get in.

CFP expansion/contraction has a huge effect on things, this is a who cares type of deal.

In the words of Bruce Springsteen..."Everything dies, baby that's a fact."

BTW, his version sucks. My favorite song of all time is The Band's cover. Springsteen's version doesn't come within 57 astronomical units of The Band's.

That's all.

Fry has a good point. The real tourney is still 64. The play in has expanded to 24 teams that will play a game to narrow it to 12 and those 12 get added to the top 52 teams that have a "bye" to form the traditional 64 teams for opening weekend. The 24 teams that are in the playin are the least relevant teams and will be all the high seeds for the tourney. So, yes, it is adding some folks to the dance floor, but not really changing the dance all that much. Easy way to raise revenue, help marginal coaches keep their jobs, and maybe add a little more juice to the Tuesday/Wednesday between conference tourney and the start of March Madness. Upon reflection, I have no beef with this.

Correct. This is the exact equivalent to going from 41 bowl games to 45.

8 more teams get to say they made the "postseason" with no effect on the ultimate outcome that everyone's actually paying attention to.

Meh...
