NCAA Seeding Debate: What if things break the other way?

In a couple other threads, a few posters have softly wished for a loss today so that Iowa might drop to the 10 or even 11 seed to avoid the second round matchup against a Duke (which assumes we win the first game against a higher seeded team, but I digress). What if fortune smiles the other direction? We get revenge on a bad Maryland squad, we find range and D against OSU and beat them, and then we somehow have the game of our lives and take down mighty Michigan. Right there we could be in the discussion for a 7 seed, but if we somehow sneak into the finals, regardless of result, we have a strong case to move down off the 8-9 line. Remember, the computers have overperformed us all season. Stringing together wins, especially some major wins, could do it.

Just sayin!

Ben has also been a tremendous post season coach. Drake won the Valley Tournament last year and his NW MO teams always made deep runs. It's not out of the question. I would take a 7, but sans winning the BTT, I think that's about as high as we can go.

Well here's the glass half full way of looking at where we are. Damn that'd be fun to see fingers crossed.

Lunardi already has them a 10. Another bad loss today - 3rd in last month - they're a definite 10 and very possible 11.
Lunardi is a dope. The committee won't like us. Metrics would have us as a 6/7, but we will get under-seeded and put with Duke so no one has to see us on the second weekend. giving as a 10/11 would be a favor...won't happen IMHO

I get ur gist... That worse seed would actually help but they'll be 8/9 vs 1 - but theyre only worthy of 10 at best.
Lately ... Should be a play-in and limp in like so many Fran teams.

All these metrics and gurus are great and all, but the committee uses the NET extensively. Before we beat Maryland, we were 25th in the NET. That would be a 7 seed.

It’s not like they just seed based on your net rating.

True, Iowa’s overall NET ranking is pretty good but Iowa will get knocked down a few seed lines due to the lack of quality wins.

Well I guess Iowa did not go on a big run in the BTT.

But If Iowa was going to go on a big run, and "play the game of their lives" against a top seed, wouldn't you rather they did it in the NCAA tourney instead of the BTT ?

I addition, there might be something to teams not have played Iowa or really Ben's style so far. That might pay dividends for Iowa. Now I realize they have scouting and such and many teams have not seen other teams, but Ben seems to be this savant in coaching which may be difficult for other teams to key on.

Iowa is #9 seed in South Region, playing #8 seed Clemson in Tampa Florida on Friday. The winner most likely will play #1 seed Florida on Sunday.
