Come on Deace, you can't be serious. Boise #1 and TCU #4? Alabama is the #1 in the country until someone beats them, as much as that makes me want to hurl saying that. I'm so tired of everyone kissing Boise and TCU's rear ends. If they want to be considered among the among the nation's elite, join a tougher conference and play a schedule that actually ranks somewhere in the top 50. I soooo wish Iowa could have had a chance to play either of these fools in a bowl game last year, their defense would have shredded both offenses.

He looks at this as to how he believes the season plays out. He doesnt think Bama is going undefeated again, and that Boise will.

No chance that North Carolina ends up in the top 10. They have a talented team, yet are very undisciplined and make many mistakes. Usually lose to the Dukes and North Carolina States of the ACC. They won't be able to handle the likes of GT or Miami, or FSU. I see them losing 3, and 4 if they somehow make it to the ACC champ game.

I don't think Michigan finishes the season ranked. I see them going 7-5.

After I got past Florida State at #11 it became more difficult for me to rank the teams. Right now I have Michigan projected at 8-4 and the No. 4 team in the Big Ten, which typically means they're in the bottom five of the top 25.

So you can see there's not that much difference between our two takes.

Mr. Deace,

Good Pre-season stuff. I'll bet Boise St. joins the Pac-10 and TCU either to the ACC or SEC. I remember Marshall moving up to Div 1 after winning a majority of their games. Some teams just get better and stay there, so they should be rewarded.

I think their performance in the opener with UConn will be a good indicator of how their season is going to go. That's some pretty stiff competition for an opening game.

In the end some on the list will disappoint. I think that UCLA and Washington could make strides this year in the Pac Ten. It may come at the expense of Cal and Arizona.

In the Big XII I think you have it pegged. In the Big 10 I feel Michigan State and Penn State could displace a couple of your choices.

I believe Notre Dame should be in the mix. I'm not and ND fan, but the coaching change may have changed the mentality.

The SEC and ACC picks are fine.

Its April, picking apart somebody's preseason rankings is almost as dumb as trying to predict what will happen in September-January

Out of the non BCS teams I think TCU has a better chance of finishing undefeated than Boise State. But we will find out quick if BSU can go undefeated as their toughest games are played the first 2 of the first 3 weeks of the season. They have to travel to Virginia Tech and then play on the smurf turf against Oregon State. But Boise State does return most of their starters so if they can go undefeated in their non conference schedule then they will breeze through their conference games. But because of their weak conference I wonder if a 1 loss team like Alabama, Ohio State, Iowa, Texas, or Florida could still jump them in the BCS?

After 2 straight undefeated seasons, I would say no chance. If they're undefeated they're in the NC, unless two others, that were rated highly at the beginning of the year, are undefeated as well. Hopefully if they do they get smoked by whoever they play and we can put an end to this crap about the MWC etc.

Jon/Steve - I think this would be a good topic for your radio broadcast program. What does a ranking mean? Especially a preseason ranking. I think different people use rankings for a different purpose. I could see it meaning any of the following:

-Here's what I think the official (e.g. AP Poll) preseason rankings will be
-Here's what I think the official postseason rankings will be
-Here's how relatively good I think each team is

I think these different perspectives can lead to vastly different results.

Nobody can really call it "crap about the MWC (Boise is in the WAC, btw)". They've been successful. Utah has come in and DOMINATED both of their BCS bowl berths. Boise pulled off a big upset against OU. Hawaii was firmly overmatched in the trenches by Georgia. That's the only loss by non-BCS schools in BCS bowl games. I'm not counting Boise vs. TCU. That was done intentionally, IMO.

If Boise or TCU came into the NCG and won (fairly convincingly), wouldn't that prove that they deserve to be there (especially considering they aren't just a one year wonder anymore)? If they got blown away, then you could call it crap. But until then, their track record is pretty good.

And don't knock on their schedules. They try to get out and play the "big boys", and they get shot down. Big schools are scared to play them. If you want them to go away, man up and beat them down, don't run and hide when they come calling.

But the human polls only carry so much weight with the BCS poll. With Computers and Strength of schedules factoring into the BCS poll you cannot say there is "no chance". If they were to manage to beat both OSU and VT then they have to hope both schools finish out the season well and end up ranked because the rest of the teams they face are against non BCS schools. You could have a 1 loss Florida whose only loss was at Alabama jump an undefeated Boise State. Or how about a 1 loss Ohio State team with their only loss at Iowa?

You wait, we could be sitting here in November hearing all the exact same arguements we heard last November.

My apologies on the conference mix up. However I will comment on the convincing wins by these teams. Most have come against subpar Big East or ACC teams, that wouldn't have made the BCS game without an automatic qualifier. Other than the Oklahoma and Alablama v. Utah game, I don't think we've seen great matchups. And Alabam just looked horrible- like they didn't want to be there that game. And BSU had to run a trick play (albeit a great play) to win the game. Not saying they woudln't have otehr wise.

Anyway, until they go in and beat a great BCS contender in the NCG, I'm calling it crap, that 2 of the teams should even be considered.

This isn't exactly true. They offered to play anyone in the country on a specific date. However this date was for the 2011 season when almost all teams have their games already scheduled. They wont play unless it is a home and home, or if they are given a huge sum of money.

It is basically a media ploy to make it look like none of the big boys will play them.

If they really wanted to play a top dog they could get it done.

No Penn St and no LSU thats different. I really dont see UNC being a top ten talent at all. The chances Boise State goes to VT and comes away with a win(I'm guessing your calling for that to happen) are pretty ballzy gotta give it to you. Overall I say pretty good choices, I like to look at the summer magazines to try and figure teams out. Quality of senior talent,I look at the teams schedule, and where a team has a bye in their schedule.
