My obsession with the Omaha Media

I didn't want to start a new NU thread - so I'll just drop this hear - This is Nebraska's WR coach - who last season was arrested for his 3rd DUI but still kept his job.

Always have a plan! #SavageProfessional!

Carfino all hair team he was awesome. Would love to know a WATN on him.

He was one of the first Hawks I remember when I was young. That team with the twin towers was when I started to become a Hawk fan. We all relate to certain players when we become fans.

I google him and he actually ended up in Australia playing in their pro league. This around the time their quality of play really improved. He was a pretty solid player and I think is in their HOF. He then went on to broadcasting and broadcasted Australian pro league games after that. Ironically, he never left Australia and still lives there, I believe, which I found rather interesting.

I just had to take five minutes out of my day to delete a bunch of posts that don't belong on this board. You guys know better. Please knock that crap off and talk Hawkeye sports. THANK YOU!

I do sincerely apologize and know better. I won't go down that road again. I appreciate the notice.

I said last year if Iowa beats them again that it should start feeling like a rivalry as is starting to become two sided. I think some over there are starting to acknowledge this. If Iowa beats them again this year, and shows physical dominance again, I think it will just ramp up more. They are starting to at least acknowledge that about Iowa teams, how physical they are.

That's awesome. Now that you say that I think I did know he'd went over there. But sure didn't realize he's been there all this time now. Thanks for the info.

That's what was odd to me, that he just anchored himself there. Over the years, he was one I always wondered about because he was one of the first in my memory.

Yeah, I'll just ad that being a Hawkeye in Omaha is super rough. Their fans are such trolls. I won't underestimate them and call them stupid. They ARE however legitimately stuck in the past. I've had to deal with them saying they shouldn't have lost to us because they have more talent, they try to justify why its OK that they won't TOLERATE not being in the run for the conference championship every season etc. I've tried to rationalize with them that the good old days are gone and outside of maybe a BIT more shine than Iowa due to that history, they have the exact same program challenges that we do and that just expecting to be better is both spoiled and futile. It doesn't work. If you try to explain that their expectations are too high they mock you for being a fan of a program that can't hope for more. If you point out literally beating them 3 of the last 4 games they throw out excuses and start quoting long past history. I honestly think they have secret meetings where they go through training on how to refute perfectly rational arguments. The party line is much stronger than the Democrats and Republicans. It is at the same time maddening and impressive (if it weren't so delusional).

Iowa really needs to beat them again this year. There are still way too many Shucker fans who think Iowa does not belong on the same field, and just can't believe it when they lose this game. It has been really fun to listen to their postgame radio shows. Another beating might help to clarify their delusions somewhat.

Nah...what am I thinking? They're Husker fans!

I'm moving to Omaha in a week, from Denver. My wife's family is from there, that is the only reason. Kinda like the city, but yes the people are ridiculous. Was surprised at the amount of Hawkeye fans around though.

Tom Brady is the new QB for the fuskers so there's NO way they lose to the Hawks. Lol Down goes Brady! AJ AJ AJ!

Omaha really isn't that great. The only reason I ever go there anymore is if some band I want to see comes through. And quite a few of those actually show up in Council Bluffs, not Omaha.

I think Omaha is pretty nice. Cost of living is very reasonable. They have the college world series every summer in an awesome venue. Creighton University gives you access to Big East basketball and again a very nice venue to watch games (even sip an adult beverage if you choose), and the University of Nebraska is less than an hour away for high quality Big 10 Sports (Nebraska typically has a better non conference schedule than Iowa). Southwest Airlines has lots of flights in an out of Omaha (part of the low cost of living). They have good restaurants and a nice downtown / old town area. It's not so darn big that it takes you forever to get somewhere. The worst thing about it is you are 4 hours from Kinick, but how many home games do you really go to now? I try and go to one a year.

Also a Hawkeye living in Omaha, been here 8 years and lived in Iowa the previous 28.

The radio is the worst part. 590 is the espn station and switched from carrying Iowa games 2 years ago to being a nebby station. The afternoon guys used to be really fair, equal time for Iowa and balanced. As soon as the switch came the narrative became how inferior of a program Iowa is and every negative story is harped on. The noon guys are so bad I turn off immediately, openly hostile to Iowa.

The one consistent thing is the spin. Every nebby player has a chance to be great or is the next whoever, every single one. After the draft is really funny as the radio guys claim that every non drafted nebby player is "a steal" and the other teams will regret not taking him. I seriously heard a conversation about how arm punt Tommy could be a starter in the NFL.
