MSU tonight

So how we feeling about this matchup? I don't like it. Maybe we can keep it a game with our slow style and all that. But they seem to be pretty good and have an inside game. They are balanced with like 5 guys averaging double digits. Only a couple guys can shoot 3s for them though so they keep it within the paint mostly. Kholer and Fears are their 2 main studs. I suppose if we can slow one of them down we can take advantage of that. But they seem kinda built to play a team like us. In Iowa City I'd say maybe we have a chance but up there I'm just not feeling it. Maybe we lose 72-59 or something like that.

Probably an L but if they can hang around and not get blown out it's a victory. Make all your free throws, don't turn the ball over a bunch, and it should be fine.

People need to give BMC some patience. It's not gonna be .750 WP outta the gate and teams take time to build. With what I've seen from him in interviews and in-game so far, I trust him.

A couple things they've struggled with here and there too. I'd say that's the difference between it being a double digit difference or not.

And yeah anybody expecting miracles here should get splashed with some reality. And from what I've seen of MSU this yr Izzo has himself a squad. It kinda feels like he's due to have a monster season and then he might exit stage left after the yr. There's rumors of that being the case anyway

This team is built to win now.

We will see how they do but at least in my eyes a glaring weakness they have is defending the athletic bigs. Maybe that will change but I am not sure if they have the horses quite yet.

What is great about Basketball though is if you can protect the ball and shoot well you can beat just about anyone on any given night.

Hawks have had really good teams get smoked in East Lansing, so even a bad loss tonight isn't the end of the world.

That said, I think the Hawks will give them a good fight. I'm curious as to how well Stirtz can control the game while being manhandled for 40 minutes.

Yep, Iowa doesn't have any rim protectors. They play to keep guys out of the lane. And on offense, as we saw against Ole Miss, they are gonna get their shots blocked at times. What I like is that these kids keep coming. They keep attacking the rim. But totally agree that athletic bigs are a challenge.

I agree that this team looks like it is ready to play every night and should be able to win most nights against teams that have equal or lesser talent. They will upset a few teams within reach talent wise.

This is not that. As Fry stated, if it is respectable, I am good. Not expecting a W or the final score to be tight.

How's MSU going to defend Stirtz/Iowa is going to be an interesting question. Ole Miss and Grand Canyon tried to funnel Stirtz to his left and make him work on that side of the court a lot. I did start to notice that. The one thing Stirtz doesn't do a ton of is drive. He will occasionally but he doesn't like to force it. If there's a lane all the way he'll take it but otherwise he's pulling up 15 plus feet out to pass or shoot.

true litmus test

I'm guessing Izzo won't show any mercy to the new kid on the block, Coach BM. I wouldn't expect him to.

I'm sure Coach BM says we will compete. I'm sure he doesn't like the idea of making it close, he wants the W.

I'm not looking for a moral victory but MSU is 16-4 against Iowa the last 25 years in East Lansing. It's a long shot Iowa wins IMO. Not going to stop me from cheering them on and watching them give it a shot, would love to see it. I just don't expect it.... even tho Iowa has got the last 2 there, it's never been a place I go into thinking we're going win.

That's more respect for MSU vs. where I think Iowa is. I think IA is a top 3rd of the conference team, I hope to see them compete and give them hell.
