Reading NorthKC's post on the Nebraska RB made me think of this. I almost put it in that thread but didn't want to hijack the thread so started this one, maybe it will have a live of its own, maybe not.
The Phoenix Suns recently got Miles Bridges in a trade with Charlotte. There is already a hue and cry about the acquisition. Turns out in 2022 or so Bridges, while playing for the Hornets, was arrested and charged with assault and doing it in front of their children of beating, causing a concussion, and showing signs of strangulation of his ex.
The charges were plead down to one. He was suspended by the NBA for 30 games, and he ended up taking a whole year off going through counseling, anger management, all that stuff. H wanted to prove that he made a mistake and down deep is a really good person.
He was reinstated by the Hornets and this past season averaged 17 ppg and had a good season. He has one year left on a contract that will pay him $28M this coming year. He's 28 years old.
Here are the Phoenix Suns Michigan St ties:
Owner Mat Ishbia was a walk on at MSSU when they won a title in 2000 or so.
GM Brian Gregory was an assistant at MSU
Coach Jordan Ott, after graduating from Penn St, was a graduate assistant to MSU
Mateen Cleeve, Suns assistant that was Ishbia's teammate at MSU
Miles Bridges, of course, played at MSU
Do you feel the presence of Tom Izzo?
I'm sure this will all be scrutinized by the media and addressed by the powers that be. That is a lot of baggage, though, and its good Bridges will have such a support system.
It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
