Michigan Game Is Not Sold Out

Speaking for myself the PSU brought a bitter taste of here we go again that has followed this program for decades now. Seems like they turn a corner but by season end the same lifeless effort and dumb mistakes.

We limp into the tournament if we make it and get wrecked and that’s that.
They don't have the horses in this first year and even redshirted a guy who reclassified to come in early, had the flu game so they had the flu run through them and it's a good big 10 this year and 20 games of course. They are only so deep and pretty worn out and you can clearly see them run out or even like OSU get down then make their run and fade without the depth or the size to answer so Iowa state runs past them to win, Purdue down 9 runs past them to win and yes even PSU caught them at the end but again the Michigan/PSU game was 74-72 so "how come they didn't just blow PSU away regardless of venue" was not what to expect.

Still have 20 wins against this schedule and ranked 28 NET right now. BS can't play anymore minutes nor is their a true dangerous second threat so him scoring 23 a game in conference play is, while impressive, a bad thing actually to have to have him shoulder so much. They got a nice amount out of this team but for essentially the Drake roster to hold up and not wear down and to be able to rebound with the Big 10 teams was a tall order. I remember people saying put that Drake team in the Big 10 and they don't win "x". Now they essentially have that happen and win 20 games and go .500 or maybe a game over if they can grab one more.

The complaint I had with Frans teams was this would be how they finished weaker with no rounding into shape for the postseason outside of the one year with the Tourney Championship but yet they gave it back with the Richmond game that was hard to excuse if they really turned the corner. The mistakes where there early as was the lack of "D" and more turnovers and bad shots than this team which is better coached. This team is 8-4 in it's last 12 games with the Purdue game as the only time we got "wrecked" even as this team was fading towards the end. last year Fran was 4-8 in their last 12 games with a 20 point loss to Ill. 26 point loss to Maryland and a 17 point loss to OSU. Hard to complain about this season even if there is a limp to the finish. This was expected and hard to see them doing any better with what they came in with. I'll ask did you applaud Fran for going 18-17 in the second year, not even the first year, after Lick? If so hard to knock this season and say here we go again.

We use to get it done with tough 6'9" guys like Reggie Evans and Greg Brunner (two of all time favorites) I know the league wasn't fat with 7 footers then but man those guys could rebound !!
Brunner is one of my all time favorites, a tremendously underrated Hawkeye. Kind of the Yan to Jess Settles yin (who is one of the most overrated Hawkeyes ever).

Jess was a starter from day one of his freshman year, had two full seasons in before the back started acting up, famously got a ton of redshirts for the era, and still is not in Iowa's top ten for career rebounding.

And his basketball IQ was laughable. He was a solid role model and got what he could out of his talent, but teammates Russ Millard and Ryan Bowen (and Brunner) we're WAY better players.

I still don't think Bowen gets enough credit for how great he was. Everyone remembers Andre Woolridge and Davis' great coaching job to get the Hawks to a runner up Big Ten finish in '97, but people maybe overlook how much of an all around stud Bowen was for that team.

The Hawks took #1 seed and defending champ Kentucky to the brink in the second round. Pitino fell in love with Bowen that day...partly because Davis had him guarding everyone from Kentucky's bigs to putting him out on All-American guard Ron Mercer. Quickest lateral quickness I've ever seen from a 6'9" guy.

Along with Bowen, sometimes I don't think people fully appreciate Aaron White's career either. I mean the fans really liked him, but he truly had an all-timer Iowa career.

awww.... I still have nightmares of Tayshaun Prince hitting 3's at the top of the key from time to time.

I dont think people are complaining about this season, mostly keeping expectations in check and not falling in love over the top to soon . Its been a great season withstanding the MASS exodus of the team we had for last few years , getting a Whole new team, getting to know them thier strengths and weaknesses and trying to call them out ...its been refreshing. Good things to come !! I just hope the door on players doesn't revolve to much and we can have legacy teams again in the future

Bowen is Iowa's all time steals leader. You could win a few bar bets with that one. Also had a respectable Bobby Hansen type NBA career due to finding the right team and system.

Anyone know if he still coaches somewhere in the NBA?

Ryan Cleo Bowen (born November 20, 1975) is an American former professional basketball player who currently serves as the head coach for the Grand Rapids Gold of the NBA G League (From Wikipedia)

My good buddy went up against him a bunch in high school tennis. Quick, with a crazy reach...

I think he's a head coach in the G league now, after about a decade as an assistant (maybe mostly with the Nuggets?)....he must be looking for a shot as a head coach in the NBA...
