Thanks for the kind words, guys. This is one of the better posts I have read on here in a while. Nice work staking out a reasonable take on a very unusual story with several angles.
Some people are making assumptions and perhaps jumping to conclusions. But it's not that "far out there".Thanks for the kind words, guys.
Scratching my head over a couple of the CC takes, still. Pretty far out there.
Yes, but she is our histrionic diva. Some people are making assumptions and perhaps jumping to conclusions. But it's not that "far out there".
We are largely the people we choose to include in our lives. It's not a big reach to think she's taken on the McCaffery "brand". Watch her on the court without your black and gold colored glasses on. She's a special talent, but also a histrionic diva.
Outside of perhaps Junior High basketball games, I'm not sure I have ever seen officials so susceptible to the "flop" act as the WNBA officials. Perhaps even worse, the announcers seem very reluctant to call out the obvious acting, almost as if they have been told to restrain themselves when they see poor officiating.Yes, but she is our histrionic diva.
And come on. Did you watch any of the NBA conference finals? Talk about histrionic. Flopping. Theatrics. CC's behavior on the court is not any worse than most BB super stars. Lebron, Luka, Draymond, Westbrook. There are plenty in the WNBA as well. Definitionally, BB players are divas.
Off the court CC has no blemishes. She may be marrying into an East Coast mountain clan of street bullies, but she has not taken on their personality... yet.
The WNBA is pathetic. The officiating is bad, the play is often bad and the league is poorly managed. Like it or not, there is a certain level of "don't dare say it, or you'll be labeled racist, misogynist, etc" if you call it like it is.Outside of perhaps Junior High basketball games, I'm not sure I have ever seen officials so susceptible to the "flop" act as the WNBA officials. I watched a recent Fever game The opposing player guarding Boston flopped or flailed at least four times in an obvious effort to get Boston in foul trouble. Three of those were called offensive fouls, with one overturned on appeal (the slow-mo was embarrassingly obvious). Boston is a physical player, but the exaggerated reactions were not even close to being proportional to Boston's contact. IMO, if obvious on review, it should be a technical foul. That may stem some of these tendencies.
Likewise, there was an obvious similar plan with Clark. They regularly isolated her one-on-one then flail on the drive. Not a bad strategy at all, especially with the emphasis on "freedom of movement," but Caitlin (who is not immune to her own acting) gets impeded on almost every drive, rarely getting called. Not that I'm condoning it, but my guess is that Caitlin's theatrics in large part are a response to the lack of consistent calls when she has the ball.
Either way, my advice to Caitlin would be to completely ignore what the officials do and just keep playing hard. In the long run, it's likely that the officials would give her more of those calls. What she's doing now is not helping her with the officials, players or fans. Not a good look.

North KC mentioned a few NBA players including LeBron. Yeah. That's exactly why I can't stand LeBron...the very same stuff we're talking about with CC.

That's a fair point. Its hard to judge the whole era as Fran had so many different players and teams. I thought his first real team with Woody and Gessell was a tough bunch. Blue collar, played some D, scrappy.Random bullshit thought:
A lot of talk in this thread about Fran and the McCraffrey family East Coast persona/mentality. Personally, I was disappointed that Fran teams didn’t take on more of that persona. I will come up short calling them soft, but I wanted more of that “f*ck you Philly mentality”.
They were soft. That was their biggest issue. They were a finesse team with team loaded with stretchy 3's. They struggled against physical teams, ala Mich St.Random bullshit thought:

Margaret is a Minnesotan and was a bad ass on the court. The kids grew up as Iowans.Random bullshit thought:

Thank You!Margaret is a Minnesotan and was a bad ass on the court. The kids grew up as Iowans.
Patrick's game wasn't very physical. Connor was one of the toughest, grittiest kids to ever walk onto the floor at Carver.
Caitlin has always talked a ton on the court. Just like about half the players you watch in any AAU, high school, college or pro game. In other words, she acts like a basketball player. For better or worse.
Why the hell would I do that? Why the hell would anyone do that? And come on. Did you watch any of the NBA conference finals?
Still a bunch of entitled assholes who deserve the backlash they got.Margaret is a Minnesotan and was a bad ass on the court. The kids grew up as Iowans.
