McCafferys and Coaches Vs Cancer Story

What a thin skinned family. If you cannot handle the Iowa media, how would Fran and his clan ever handle a real MBB job? I guess that is why he has never had a good MBB before or after Iowa. The student gazette at Penn probably has some vicious student journalists covering MBB. Watch out!
 
I like how X got reminded of how all that went down again. They hired Keith back to emcee it since Fran is gone and that's great. I wish that someone would put out video of Margaret doing what she did. I'm not sure if their is any I just haven't seen it if their is. Someone posted video of how after that event where she did that fans booed her walking in CHA and she flipped em off.

It's really too bad that the Cancer organization didn't tell Fran we pick Keith over you and you're not welcome back to this event anymore. What a statement that woulda made. Just the audacity it takes for him to go to them and lay down an ultimatum of that sort is insane.

Murphy isn't a snake in the grass dirty media guy at all. He's the furthest thing from it if anything he's probably too nice and fair to those that don't deserve it. For Fran to treat him how he did and pretty much shut off WHO from all basketball media availability over it was about as low and petty as it gets.

Then there's the whole Barta side of it. He enabled Fran to be that way and it may have even been his idea to not publicize the extension. Even if it wasn't his idea he went along with it. We're in such a better place with a true professional leading the AD with Beth now.

Some guys just have a ceiling. Through their own making of course. Not so rigid like he knows better and adapt to the Big Ten with some needed changes here and there w/o a whole overhaul of his system. Just what fits in with the conference and the trends in the game. Pretty much adapt or fail/hit a ceiling in most professions anyhow esp. as you go up the ladder.

Then the attitude as if he was better than he was whether at a function, or on the court with the refs and probably with Barta. Barta a big culprit with the enabling him. Fran probably had dirt on him regarding those discrimination lawsuits lol. Getting extensions he probably didn't deserve. Then I was hoping that we'd ditch him at the time and get a Dusty May which didn't happen and it looked scary what the future was gonna be. Luckily we are okay now.
 
He was a very good coach. Snake bit in the tourney. One of the smartest basketball minds I have ever heard speak, and he could identify underrecruited talent better than just about anyone. But, at his core he was an ass. Not an asshole like Bob Knight, but he was an ass. And if you are going to be that kind of a guy, you gotta win big. He didn't. He rose to his level of incompetence at Iowa and now is at a level more suited to his talents.

That right there shows how Iowa is sooooo much better off without the McCaffery's here anymore. Marge might be the biggest tool out of all of them. They are so thin skinned and classless. I don't care what success they have had or how much money they have. What a joke!

Damn right. Keith could have said something back when it happened but he took the high road & kept his mouth shut. After the situation/event, he even contacted Fran inquiring if he could come to his office to discuss it and Fran turned that offer down.

Also, remember how Fran tried to have Dolphin fired like 2-3 times.

Remember when Marge when at Sienna I believe yelled at refs from the stands at a game and may have even come out of the stands. It seems something happened there but was many years ago.

Man, I don't feel any pitty for the McCaffery's after this.

Can't buy class... They didn't fit at Iowa and it showed. Took longer then it should've but good bye and good riddance.

I bet Dolphin could write a book telling the stories he knows...
 
Seriously, how could you have and hold a grudge with Keith Murphy!! That right there tells you everything.

One of the most fair media members out there.

Yeah the story of it all did mostly come out at the time. Keith himself like you said just didn't really make it into more of a thing. Andy talked about Keiths wife Jenny and how at the time she was beyond livid and how couldn't she be? You could tell Andy was told to bite his tongue back then and that he wished he coudla let his two cents fly. They are all better people then me cause I'd have gone scorched earth on Fran and Barta (he enabled Fran way too much) if I was either Keith or his wife.

One thing I do wish is that the rest of the media woulda stood up for Keith more... They coulda done some kind of protest of sorts or I don't know. Just something that woulda brought it to everyones attention more that Fran did what he did to one of their own. It seems like Keith is pretty universally liked and respected in the industry. Woulda been nice to see Fran be called out for it way more then he was at the time.
 
I don't know about the rest of you, but I hope that the McCaffery bashing will stop soon. He's gone, hedid some great things here and some disappointing things as well. He brought Iowa a dynamic offensive scheme and the players to implement it. We had the National Player of the Year in Garza and countless members of the B1G First Team. He just never could get the defense up to par. Again, he's gone. Coaches as a whole are an egotistical lot and McCaffery was no different. Let's concentrate on the new coach and his program and let the past be the past.

I have zero problem with those that feel this way. None at all. But myself and how my mind is wired I can't help but want to pile on to a guy when they have it coming. The guy and his wife just have it coming and they know it. Sure there's a beating a dead horse angle to it eventually. I just want to go a step or two past it before I'm done

This topic came back up because Keith got hired back to emcee the event Fran got him kicked off of so that makes all of this totally fair to be rehashed. Keith said he got asked about it all multiple times that night and so his podcast with Andy was as good a place as any for him to address it. I hope others in the media use this as an opportunity to shed a light on whatever stories they might have on Fran to bring to light. I have no problem burying the guy.

This sums up pretty well how I feel. I am extremely happy with the new coach and look forward to many good years ahead. Fran is old news to me.
 
I believe that most here knew Fran was a horses patoot a lot of the time. The fact that Marge was as well might be news to some. I'm just glad the whole bunch are gone.

Define "snake bit". He just couldn't win in the tourney. Marge's conduct has been no secret. She's acted like a tool at CHA and at her kids' games at West High.

Maybe this is my feeling on Iowa in general in the time between D R. Tom and Ben, but I just feel like Iowa and Fran too have been unlucky in the tourney. Bad draws. Lower teams playing out of their asses. Ball never bounced our way. Guy heaves up a bank 30 footer from the corner (ok, that was Alford). As long as Fran has been coaching, he should have gone on one lucky streak and won two games in the tourney. Maybe snake bit isn't totally fair, but he has sure as hell never caught a break in the tourney,.

Yeah. His teams just didn't play well enough to win. There's no voodoo or "luck". The Alford 30 footer is a perfect example. It's not a freak play, it's a great shot. Those happen in the tourney. It also only happens if you've allowed a team to stay within striking distance so that shot can beat you.

Fran has never performed well in the tourney, at Iowa and elsewhere.
