My little guys are finally old enough and wife and I figured it'd be a great way to spend a Saturday in anticipation of the upcoming season. Never been before. Any of you fine specimens have any insight or suggestions?

Here's the info if you need it:

“KIDS AT KINNICK” DAY SET FOR AUG. 10

IOWA CITY, Iowa - - The University of Iowa football team will stage its annual “Kids at Kinnick” presented by the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, on Saturday, Aug. 10.

Gates to Kinnick Stadium will open at 11 a.m., with the team’s practice scheduled to begin at noon. Team members will sign autographs for kids only at approximately 11:30 a.m., along the front of the west and south stands. Free schedule posters, schedule cards, magnets, and rosters will be available inside all open gates. Fans are discouraged from bringing additional items to be autographed.

Prior to the action on the field, activities will be held in the Krause Family Plaza, which opens to the public at 9 a.m. Hawkeye fans are invited to visit the Kids Zone for inflatable games, face painting, temporary tattoos, other prizes, and a chance to meet Herky the Hawk. The Iowa mascot will be available for photos from 10:30 to 11 a.m.

Other kid-friendly activities will be provided by University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Alliant Energy, Authentic Brand, Iowa Corn, Grizzly Coolers, Almost Famous Popcorn, Delta Dental of Iowa, Homewood & Home 2 Suites, and Blue Bunny. Families can also learn more about joining the Junior Hawk Club and the benefits provided to those in the club. Members of the Junior Hawk Club be able Swarm Kinnick Stadium. Kids will need to be signed up for the Junior Hawk Club one week in advance (Aug. 5th) for special access on the field.

Free parking will be available on hard surface lots, while normal ramp fees will be charged. Concession stands will be open, with items being sold at discounted prices.

Fans attending Kids Day should enter Kinnick Stadium at Gates A (south end zone) and E (west side). Regular season game-day search procedures will be in place and fans will be allowed to sit in the south and west stands.

Fans should note that there will be no access to the playing surface of Kinnick. Fans are also reminded that the annual “Kids at Kinnick” activity is designed primarily for the enjoyment of younger fans. Therefore, possession of an open container of beer or wine or consumption of hard liquor on University property, including parking lots, is prohibited by law.

I could also use some guidance as we will also be attending this for the first time. My main concern is parking. I'm assuming it's still a bit of a challenge, but not nearly as bad as a typical home game.

I'm a bit worried our 3 and 4 year old kids won't get much out of it because we won't have access to the field. I just learned the kids had to be signed up to the Junior Hawk Club for that. Do they still have access to the players for autographs?

It won’t be bad. Even for the spring games we’ve always easily been able to find spots in Kinnick lots.

The U calls it a "Members Only Experience." We're talking about fucking kids here. Sorry, kid; you're not in the club.

I've been several times and it's usually pretty easy to find parking, there's always the huge lot north of the stadium. I always skip the Kid's Zone area, that place seems to be an absolute shit show every year. Filled with whining and crying kids. Lines longer than the It's a Small World at Disney. I love my own kids, other people's kids? Not so much. I'll be dragging the kids tomorrow again though and hopefully they show some interest in football, it usually seems like I'm pulling teeth!

Since it's August, any mention of U of I Athletic Department putting on a FB "Dog Day" event?

Think of it....several hundred pooches, all running around, sniffing butts, fighting with one another, chasing frisbees, slobbering, leaving their poop and pee all over.

Would be awesome.

They do it at the minor league baseball stadium in CR on specific dates (weekday games when attendance down). Can't let dogs in the seats though, just grassy area or concourse. Any dump taking has to be to picked up.
