100%. We might not agree on football, but you hit the nail right on the head here. For all the Ben Keuter fans out there who said he’s a Big Ten HWT, tonight was the 3rd match of the year he didn’t take a shot. Not a single one.
He’s getting paid to ride a bus 8 hours and stand in a collar tie for 7 minutes.
To be fair, after the first 3 matches Iowa wrestlers had scored 17 pts. Ohio State's 3.Absolutely zero offense by any of the 10 guys. Get down by 4 points and just stand there and wait for points to miracle themselves into your life.
Good question. Also, what the hell happened to Drake Ayala? He’s not even a top 10 wrestler at his weight anymore.
100% correct. For all the Ben Keuter fans out there who said he’s a Big Ten HWT, tonight was the 3rd match of the year he didn’t take a shot. Not a single one.

I know for fact Tom is trying and has tried to get Keuter to wrestle. Even someone who knows nothing about wrestling can hear him pleading at Keuter on TV during matches. In any sport, you have to take advantage of whatever edge you have. If you're a 7'2', 300 lb, basketball player, you don't hang out at the 3-point line and wait for the ball so you can take a shot...
Right now, Keuter is that guy. His only hope is to take advantage of his quickness and length, yet, he seems content to hand-fight and do the fat-boy dance match after match.
If I was one of the coaches, I would take him aside and simply ask him, "What do you want? Do you want to immerse yourself into tape of guys that took advantage of your body type and dedicate yourself to learning those moves, or do you want your legacy to be the hyped-up guy who decided to coast on his high-school accolades?
If it's the latter, fine. There's nothing wong with focusing on the things that really matter the rest of your life, but. be honest with yourself and your coaches so everyone knows where things stand.
You don’t honestly think that elite D1 coaches aren’t seeing the same things we do and aren’t asking those questions, do you?If I was one of the coaches, I would take him aside and simply ask him, "What do you want? Ben Keuter does not have the stones to wrestle at this level. It’s mental. He locks up out there and the mental side of wrestling is just as crucial as your technique it physical ability. To be honest it’s more important.
I know you’ll say it’s Tom’s job to get it out of him, but let’s be honest…some people are simply impossible to get through to no matter what you do. That’s just a fact. Peterson is one. Arnold is another one. Arnold is even more frustrating than Keuter because he talks such a big game.
Why does an alcoholic keep drinking when he’s lost his family and job, and why does the biggest, baddest, toughest soldier on the planet have a fear of heights that he can’t overcome? Some horses just flat out cannot be led to water that they’ll drink no matter what.
I'm not putting any of this on the coaches. This is all on Keuter. You don’t honestly think that elite D1 coaches aren’t seeing the same things we do and aren’t asking those questions, do you?
I don’t sleep well unfortunately. Been that way since my early 30s. Don’t have apnea, melatonin is the only thing that works, but I have to take quite a bit. When I take enough for it to work, I dream vividly to the point I don’t feel rested so I don’t take it anymore.I'm not putting any of this on the coaches. This is all on Keuter.
They may have already had that discussion with him. I don't know. From the tone of your post, I think we are both saying the same thing.
3:26 AM? Long night last night?
Same.I don’t sleep well unfortunately. Been that way since my early 30s. Don’t have apnea, melatonin is the only thing that works, but I have to take quite a bit. When I take enough for it to work, I dream vividly to the point I don’t feel rested so I don’t take it anymore.
Just hoping to live long enough to retire and then it doesn’t matter.
My son can turn it on and off like a switch. When we drive to Hawkeye games he falls asleep a half hour after we leave and wakes up 5 hours later pulling into townSame.
I can't even remember the last time I woke up feeling rested and rejuvinated, and ready to hit the day. I'm exceedingly envious of those who do.
In my case, though, I'm pretty sure it's related to an atypical daily migraine disorder. It's like waking up every morning feeling like you just got ran over by a truck.
I'd have to take it once a day and that's no bueno for my liver. Actually Benadryl is the make you sleepy ingredient in Tylenol PM, so people could actually just take that and get the same effect with no acetaminophen. But I digress.I take Tylenol PM once a week. It really helps me get a good rest.
Have you tried the Unisom that's not the same ingredient as Benadryl. Doxylamine something.I'd have to take it once a day and that's no bueno for my liver. Actually Benadryl is the make you sleepy ingredient in Tylenol PM, so people could actually just take that and get the same effect with no acetaminophen. But I digress.
The amount of Benadryl I have to take to make me sleepy leaves me sluggish and hung over feeling the next day.
I'm weird, for some reason my body takes way more of every medication I've ever had to try in order to work.
I've tried staying up as long as possible but I'm not a night owl (purposely anyway) and I'm miserable trying to stay awake. Sounds like you already stay up fairly late anyway.Following this thread now. Probably starting about a year ago, I wake up around 3 am most nights.
I'm usually asleep between 10:30-11, no issue falling asleep. Out like a light. But then seemingly wide awake around 3ish. Not overly stressed, like when you wake up thinking about a single issue that keeps you awake. My mind isn't racing or anything.
But I'm just laying there awake. I don't want to give in and watch TV, or read or even look at my phone. I feel like I'd just be training/rewarding myself to keep getting up at that hour.
So I lay there, relatively relaxed. I think I drift in and out of sleep a bit eventually, but it isn't great. Sometimes I fall asleep really hard for like 30 minutes or an hour from roughly 5-6, which makes the laying around for a couple hours worth it.
But generally I'm not rested enough. I drink quite a bit of coffee in the morning through early afternoon, but doesn't seem to have any effect on my ability to fall asleep. I exercise regularly - doesn't seem to have an impact. Neither does alcohol one way or the other.
I've tried regular/light doses of melatonin, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Maybe I need to stick with it longer, although I'd prefer to not have to rely on something.
I'm gonna ask my PCP when I go for my annual physical next week. It's getting a little annoying.
