Keno done?

Interesting. He obviously made a great decision to make the cash when he could. I wonder where he goes from here? Head coach at a mid-major? Assistant at a top program? You figure he has great connections and a solid resume. Wonder if he'd ever go back to Drake...kind of thinking they may have an opening again soon.

If I were him I would relax for the next 5 years and collect a pay check.

I doubt we ever again see Keno as the head coach at a D1 school from a major conference. Mr. Davis set Keno up for a fine payday. He should be able to retire quit comfortably.

That seemed like a bad hire from day one. Big East school hires Midwest coach with limited success at Drake?? He will end up in the Valley and will probably do a good job for somebody. Who knows, maybe he is too honest to win in that sleazy conference. Except for ND, there isn't a kid a big east team can't get into school. Boeheim and Calhoun win with kids that would make the Fab 5 look like rocket scientists.

It is possible for him to end up at Drake. Drake needs the help, he did have success there but with his dads players. I think he left on good terms.

Great recruiter, too bad Fran doesnt have any openings, Hope he comes back to Drake

Fun rivilaries: White Magic, the Mayor, Jac, and Keno, wish Iowa would schedule Creighton bring Mac back into the fold

I think Keno had a great recruiting class coming in next season, wonder if Fran could convince any of them to look else where/

How serious was our interest in Keno last year? I know/think phone calls suggest there was some level of interest however cursory or serious. It will be interesting to see his separation package.

Keno caught lightning in a bottle at Drake and parlayed into a big paycheck out East. I never thought that much of him and was surprised he got the Providence gig at all. Back to the Valley or a mid major for him, maybe Bradley would be a good place for him. Maybe on as an assistant somewhere first. Wouldn't look for him to land any higher.

As Roy said, it is really hard to turn a major program around right now. The guys who do it are mostly huge names that bring the prestige necessary to bring the big recruits immediately. Calipari can do it, Hugs can do it, Lavin is doing it.

Beyond those guys, it just looks sketchy. Guys like Lick, Keno, McDermott, Brownell, etc. really start in a huge hole, because they have to compete against the big boys with very little ammunition.

If I was a mid-major coach I would be way more interested in taking a job at a school where I was expected to keep a good thing going instead of having to turn a program around.

I'm sure most coaches would like that too but how many BCS level programs have job openings while things are going well? Really only the elite level schools (UCLA, UNC, Kentucky, Indiana) hire proven head coaches from BCS level conferences. There are very few moves like Herb Sendek from NC St to ASU, where a coach leaves a mildly successful team for another BCS team. So if you're a mid major coach looking to jump to a major conference (and almost all of them are) you're probably going to have to take over a team in a less than ideal situation.

I think we play Creighton @ Wells Fargo next year.
