Jarryd Cole!

There are three or four threads on this board ripping the officials. However, there isn't one thread mentioning the excellent play of Jarryd Cole.

Jarryd Cole had a double-double this afternoon. He led Iowa in points with 16 & rebounds with 10. In addition, he was 7 from 12 from the field, made both free-throws & did not commit a turnover. Helluva game. Way to finish up a career!

He saved at least 3 possessions on loose ball scrambles, too. In all, this was a classic Jarryd Cole performance. If I hadn't been so excited when he hit that shot from the key, I could have cried. Honestly, how fitting was it that he was the one to put the game away (and that shot was the dagger)?

Nobody played a bad game tonight. Not one player. But Jarryd Cole had the best game of the bunch, and there's not anyone in recent memory who deserved a win like this one as much as Cole.

I will state it here for all to see. My favorite Hawkeye player was Andre Woolridge. Jarryd Cole is now #1 for me. Love the guys work ethic and attitude.
Congratulations Jarryd, what a career!!

Well said. +1

AND ONE! Cole was fantastic today... and always has been. A class act and someone to greatly admired. If he just had another year left! A player like that on and off the court is hard to replace. 16 points on Senior Night against the #6 team in the nation. In a weird way it tells you alot about Cole that we are not going on and on about how great he played today. We have come to expect him to give us all he had. It isn't out of slight... it is much respect.

Great Iowa player...really stepped up the effort the last third of the season, or so. His free throw shooting was outstanding and he really has developed a solid little 14-17' jumper. Of course, the rebounding has been constant, as has his effort...rebounding = effort.

Agree. The same will be said about Matt Gatens this time next year IMO. Some limitations, but a true Hawkeye.

Cole was just phenomenal this year. What a leader. They might want him to stick around and be a graduate assistant - he is the heart and soul of the program right now

He's been the heart and soul of the team the past two years. I would love to see him stick around. I want him to be a part of the team when we get back to the NCAA tournament.

Chris Street and Jarryd Cole are my two favorite Hawks of all time, and by a VERY wide margin.

Well said, tm...could not agree more if you gave me SEC money to do so!

I really think that, right now, Fran has a group of players that bleed black and gold. There will be no defections this year. These kids are determined to turn this program around....

We need Cezar to commit and then away we go.....

And don't forget Cully Payne... he can be considered the "fourth" recruit....

I'd still like to see us get another big, possibly a JUCO. We're going to need the depth, because Brommer will still likely get into foul trouble, even though I think he's going to take a big step forward next year. Three just won't be enough, IMO.

I am somewhat torn on what big guy Iowa needs to get...they need one more for sure, is the JUCO route the way to go, with the success of Bryce, you know Fran and Staff can really evaluate talent. Does Iowa go the HS route with Katenda or Olesani and develop them into a player. I am still leaning to the HS route only for this reason, Basabe should be one of the top post players next season and Iowa should ge plenty of scoring from him. Other reasons, Devin Archie could do some nice things if he stays healthy and Aaron White is going to be a player that can play 3 different positions, throw in Katenda (my favorite between he and Olesani) and you have five potential post players. I agree that Brommer will take another step forward, but if he continues to set the world record for fouls per minute, he will stay where he is, inconsistent.

Agreed. I think it'll depend on how they feel about where they stand with Woodbury. The only reason I'd consider a JUCO is for more immediate, Big Ten-ready (or Cartwright-level ready) depth. A guy fresh out of high school won't provide as much quality depth as a solid JUCO.

Worley's record ain't comin' down any time soon! That poor kid once got whistled for over the back...OF HIS OWN TEAMMATE!

I would agree with you 100%, but Katenda is a Basabe type athlete that could impact Iowa much in the same way, but in another way. Katenda is a good mid-range shooter, something Iowa is missing right now, White will help in that area, but having White and Katenda on the floor with Basabe at the same time would be nice. Think about it, White/Katenda ready to shoot when Basabe gets doubled, after they hit enough open shots, the double goes away and Melsahn dominates the paint. No matter what, Iowa does need another big man, if they do nothing other than replace Cole's hustle that is enough from a freshman or JUCO.
