About as uninspiring a hire as it gets. A wrestler that never rose to the occasion is now coaching a program that’s been doing the same.
Whats wrong with Jacob? We have always hired coaches from the inside. OOPPPSSS, my bad except for Dan Gable. A State guy but I forgive him.About as uninspiring a hire as it gets. A wrestler that never rose to the occasion is now coaching a program that’s been doing the same.
Correct. Warner is not a permanent addition. Nor should he be.Certainly not a needle-mover, but from what I've heard his status is temporary.
Warner was an overall solid wrestler, but really, really, struggled on bottom. Something that never really improved during his Hawkeye career.
Yeah, hard to say with Spencer. On a positive note, he was praised as being a great leader in the room and helpful with recruiting, both definite traits you look for. You could be right about his mindset. We'll just have to wait and see how it plays out.Correct. Warner is not a permanent addition. Nor should he be.
Morningstar was really the only full-time assistant when BT was here. BT only made like $50K a year and he was basically just outside help with the heavies. Morningstar is and has been well into the six figures.
I would like to see ten Brinks trucks pulled up to Dake's house when the Brands' retire in a couple years. Spencer Lee is NOT the guy. I think you're going to see Lee living in a van driving around the country trying to find himself after the next Olympic cycle, similar to Dan Dennis. Lee does not have a brain wired to deal with anything other than winning 100% of the time. He has unfortunately tilted like a pinball machine and has never been the same person since Ramos beat him. That type of guy does not make a good coach at any level.
Burroughs hates folk. He's been approached before but doesn't want anything to do with it. Very passionate about moving to free, he feels that's why the US isn't a big player internationally and wrote a really well thought out open letter a few years ago pleading his case.Yeah, hard to say with Spencer. Dake has popped into my head off and on, but the more I have thought about it, I actually think Jordan Burroughs would be a better choice (if he's even interested). Not only does he have a great pedigree, but he possesses a really good combination of personality and communication skills.
Yeah, I know that he has expressed concerns in the past, and I think the vast majority of coaches and fans agree with him. At the stage he is at in his career, he will be looking for some type of stable long-term position at some point.Burroughs hates folk. I'd bet my paid off house that Burroughs will be the Team USA coach.Yeah, I know that he has expressed concerns in the past, and I think the vast majority of coaches and fans agree with him. He might see the opportunity of coaching at at a high-profile wrestling program as a platform to push for changes. Hard to say, but of everyone I've thought about that could replace or follow Brands, he would be the biggest home run IMO.
I agree. That's the more likely scenario.I'd bet my paid off house that Burroughs will be the Team USA coach.
