Iowa WBB going back to 4-out 1-in offense

Iowa's WBB is planning to go back to the popular 4-out 1-in offense that Iowa ran when Caitlin Clark and Lucy Olson were there. Or I like to call it the 4-guards and 1-post player offense.

The 1-year shift to having 2 post players was a reaction to Iowa's 2 best players being Heiden and Stuelke but the problem was neither were true wing players. The thinking is that Wolizcko will be a better wing player.

This suggests to me that Heiden and Hays will probably alternate at the post with Heiden getting most of the minutes unless she gets in foul trouble or is sick/hurt. I guess maybe Wolizcko could play the post too in an emergency. You also got the new girl from Europe if she develops.

This will give Ava more room to operate while creating lanes for the wing players. The offense was bungled up at times last year with Ava and Hannah both in the lane where they are comfortable. There should be better spacing with this approach.

I would not count on the gal from Europe. She is most definitely a young developmental piece.

Houston can play the 3 or the 4. I would not count her out as winning the starting 4 spot, at least at first. But, Wol is going to be a force and I think that starts this season.

Yeah there's not many positions up for grabs it seems like that's the main question mark to see played out. I lean towards Jan playing Stremlow over Houston at the 3 only because I think Jan will want to be playing 3 wings and playing faster.

Early on I could see Houston starting over Wolizko till she gets more comfortable. I just think Wolizkos talent and length will be too hard to not have out there a lot. But Houston situationally and against certain teams and matchups will be a huge advantage for us cause of her versatility and tenacity inside. She's going to play a ton I don't want to put a ceiling on her cause I think she's got an outside shot that can be unlocked even more. She reminds me of Syd Affolter quite a bit.

Our X factor is Whiting. She is a senior and been through the wars a coaches kid that can shoot. So if she pushes Stremlow for mins I wouldn't rule it out that those mins could be up for grabs between em. Iron sharpens iron. If Strem goes on a cold streak and turns it over a lot Whiting could get in there over her some.

My guess at what the midseason-end of the yr starting lineup will be lineup will be but hell there's only 11 on the roster. I think the top 7-8 are all gonna play a ton.

I am hearing a lot of buzz that Whiting may end up starting over Stremlow. She can play defense, and occasionally hit the 3-pointer. Plus, as already mentioned, she is a senior and a coach's daughter. Could be a good replacement for Feurerbach and McCabe.
