They got a bit sloppy towards the end, but I'm happy the defense kept the shutout.

Several first-string offensive linemen out just before and after half-time. I hope it was mostly the heat and not injuries.

The game was hot as heck but we stayed till the end. A extreme heat warning was issued for the stadium towards the end of the 2nd quarter. The marching band didn’t perform at the half because of it.

Grade with not knowing how bad this team was we just beat.
Defense = A-
Offense = C
Special Teams= C
QB’s? Nothing to write home about, Very slight edge to Brown.
It’s still just one game against a subpar opponent, but there is time to continue to improve and win. I can see up at 3-0 going into Michigan and unless one of these QB’s makes strides in consistency and ability it’s likely we a looking at another “meh” season as we beat the weak teams in the conference and lose to the top portion of the conference. “Nothing to see here folks, move along, move along, but don’t worry be happy basketball season is just around the corner.”

Offense gets a little more than a C. The starting O line was dominant. Special teams also. Missed FG and XP but also had a return TD.
Defense = A you can't do better than a shutout
Offense = B Some missed plays but the most yards since 2019 and 40 points. If that's a C, what the hell is an A or B?
Special teams = B- should never miss an XP but the punt return TD was sweet.

NIU is pretty much an all FCS level team and I'm not kidding. Their coach bolted to the Seahawks and the new interim coach brought in a ton of FCS guys to fill the roster. Good luck in the Mountain West NIU!

You left out a missed field goal also. The big thing you are missing is the quality and strength of the opponent. If we did this well against a top ten team then you can talk about mostly A’s.
Look what BYU is doing against total crap team. Let’s see what happens when BYU plays a top twenty team or a top ten team. It is unethical for BYU to even schedule a glorified high school team like Utah tech. Utah tech already lost to Montana State by over fifty points.
Not to disparage BYU but when you look to evaluate a team’s performance you have to look at the level of competition you are playing against not just the score or stats. That is my main point. Should we discuss how Iowa has lost to top ten teams and the point deferential over the last few years??? Was I glad they won by a significant margin today. Hell YES. It’s not fun nervously chewing your finger nails late in the fourth quarter like we have had to do for several years.
Next week Iowa State. Never a gimme for Iowa. Even with a new coach and the loss of some key players this game could be closer than we like. I want to see ISU throttled just like we throttled our opponent today. Do that and I will be a lot more free with the A’s and B+’s.

Iowa State looked the part and competent on the field. That's not a gimme, especially coming of what was pretty much a scrimmage against an undersized and undermanned team.

I wouldn't bury Buhr as of yet. Yes, he missed the Xpt, but that was his first step on the field. His first legit attempt was a 50 plus attempt. He came around after that and settled in. I'd roll with him with a short leash though.

My wish would be for either or both Utah and BYU to join the Big Ten. Would buy tickets whenever Iowa comes visiting. The Utes are just 40 miles from my home. BYU is only six miles from my home. I would create discretionary funds for both games.
