Iowa FB Pre-Season Discussion

I think KF and Lester saw the limitations of putting a band-aid on the QB position by one-year rentals. They invested in two good portal prospects last year and have a couple home grown kids in the pipeline. This year may be bumpy, but we should have an experienced QB at the helm next season.

That logic has seemingly carried over to other positions as well. Instead of plug and play stop gaps, Iowa has continued to invest in its high school classes with more vigor than most, and has used the portal to bring in multi-year and developmental guys. This is the first year Iowa has really done that in the portal. It may take a year for the fruits of that labor to blossom, but it seems like a sound strategy.

I am by no means giving up on '26 before it starts, but several unknowns have to break Iowa's way for this team to be elite. That seems unlikely. I think Iowa will be good though.

But they had the Gipper. And they have a sign that they high five when they come out of the tunnel...And they have real gold flake in the paint that they put on their helmets. That alone is worth entry to the CFP.

I mean the enabled and covered up systemic child rape sucks don't get me wrong, but at the end of the day...it's noter dame, man. They're even on NBC and Lou Holse's spit from his lithp (I mean speeth impediment) fell on that hallowed field. How could you ever leave them out and have it make sense?

To be honest I don't know why every game of the CFP isn't played there...

I love the optimism in predicting us 5th. Just not sure that I buy it at this point. Phil Parker's defense continues to get mad respect, as it should. But while I don't think we will be bad on that side of the ball, I'm not sure we will have the kind of defense that translates to this level of a finish in the B1G. I hope I'm wrong.

I think our D will take a half step back, but our O has the chance to be more balanced and productive. MG was a really productive runner and playmaker, but our passing game was pretty bad last year. We have better skill players and hopefully a better passer, and that should lead to more offensive balance and productivity. We shall see.

We will be worse on special teams. KW was generational.

5th is optimistic.

If this was meant to be in order of worst to best, it was about as dumb a take as I have seen (other than listing MG as 1). If it was just a list, why was it not in order of when they came on campus or left campus? Color me confused.
 
so often I've seen teams that were the year before "the year" turn out to be better than the year all the pieces come together. I'm hoping

Hoping this run gam is improved, I think its likely.

Hoping that the passing game is improved, I think it can be

Hoping Phil delivers another solid D.

The vast majority of programs would be thrilled to win 7-9 games every year with an occasional double digit season every now and then. Sure, we would all love to be Indiana, but there are a lot more examples of Nebraskas and Rutgers out there.

If we can somehow pull out a win at Michigan, there is a decent shot at 10 wins and a playoff. But, that is not something I would bet money on.

@DrKnipe is a troll who doesn't follow college football beyond the semifinal CFP games, and has not a single clue about the game itself, let alone the dynamics surrounding the sport. I would bet my paid off house that he has not watched more than one Iowa football game per half-decade since he was born.

1) Since 2015 Iowa football is 98-43.

That's a .695 winning percentage and is 13th in the country out of 138 FBS teams. It's the EXACT same record as LSU in that time frame.

2) Penn State is the next "best" team with a winning percentage in that time frame of .706

3) Here's the list of schools that have a better record than Iowa football since 2015, in order:

Ohio State
Alabama
Georgia
Clemson
noter dame
Oklahoma
Michigan
James Madison
Boise State
Oregon
Penn State

4) Here's a curated (by me) list of teams with a worse record than Iowa in that time frame...

Cig seems like a guy who keeps coming. Maybe not another Nattie, but Indiana is not going back to a doormat anytime soon. And, even if they did, is there anyone here who would not trade Indiana's last two seasons even if it meant a decade to follow of being Purdue?
