Iowa Baseball - 2019 MLB Draft

I was shocked a team didn't grab him in the 9th or 10th round. Mid 90s fastball with a curveball is the kind of stuff baseball coaches can work with.

Agreed, that kind of makeup is about as ideal as they come for a pitching prospect. In fact here's an excerpt from the MLB Draft Tracker describing Cole.

"McDonald can command four different pitches for strikes and reaches the mid-90s on his heater. The righty’s curveball features good depth, too, making McDonald a pitcher with a good toolbox with which big league pitching coaches can build upon."

30 rounds down and Cole is the lone player from the state of Iowa selected, 10 rounds left.

If he was a lefty that’s about where he’d have gone.

You're probably right. Whether the old adage is true or not that taller pitchers are more durable and therefore make for better prospects becoming an MLB starter, you can probably add if Cole was a few inches taller to your statement as well.
