Iowa #2 Tight End U of the 2000's

I thought we'd be a little higher with O line

They are using a point system that is biased toward exceptional talent.
10 points - Award Winning
8 points - All American
8 points - First round draft
6 points - Coaches first team all conference.
4 points - NFL draft round 2-4
2 points - NFL draft round 5-7

As you can see having even a single award winner will really pile up the points in the other categories as well. The teams that are really going to get knocked consistently produce serviceable talent. This only estimates the amount of exceptional talent.

Over Ferentz's tenure the lack of talent at wideout has hurt Iowa more than any other position. Keeping them on campus and out of trouble seemed to be a problem as well. You can correlate the lean years at wideout with losing years pretty well, 2005 with Hinkel out in the middle of the year, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012. In 2013 Iowa managed to get away with not having much talent at receiver by spreading the ball around.

I put this in the rivalry forum, but I will throw it here as well.

Iowa State
DL-61
LB-36 (their best of all)
DB-65 (2nd to last)
K- 57 (last)
QB-47 (Seneca Wallace?)
RB-55
WR-63 (2nd to last, but Lazard)
TE- 52 (2nd to last)
OL-60

So, of power conference teams, they are last or 2nd to last in 4/9 positions and they don't even crack the top half in any of them.
Next time a clone fan tries to say the program gap is closing, just laugh at them and move on.

Easy to argue that if recruiting rankings were factored into the results UW and Iowa would finish #1 and #2. No question similar jumps would happen in most of the other categories as well. We "coach 'em up".
