Iowa 14 point underdog

4-0 ranked 14 playing at home in a tough place for opponents. Ohio State has pros especially on offense. Our secondary is really going to get challenged

31-10
OSU

I'm always wrong.
Exactly the score I was going to predict.

This game is stress free as long as we have no injuries. We don’t need it to make the playoffs, we need the rest of them.

Go out there, be competitive, limit penalties, and don’t get hurt. Call it a loser mindset if you want but we need to concentrate on the big picture. Beating OSU isn’t necessary for the big picture.

My kid will take the loss hard. But, I get it. I'd rather lose this and win out. The letdown of beating Michigan AND OSU and then later losing to Purdue? Well, we've kinda been through that sort of thing before.

He already had plans for if Game Day came.
He talked to his brother who was on campus for a BTN's show and Big Noon. He researched timing and stuff. This was before the season began.....mainly just planning on if it ever happened in his projected 4 years of college.

I said to my wife Saturday, that the mission had been accomplished. Both of my kids who went there, I always told them....there will be a time in your 4 years you will feel like you're at the center of the universe. He's off to a good start. Hopefully he'll get to experience it again. Touch and go for my middle kid who just graduated. If it wasn't for Caitlin Clark, I might have been proven wrong. We were on campus for prospective student days after the PSU win when Iowa was #3 in the nation. Buzzing. And then booom......drudgery for years.

The losses and disappointments are definitely easier to take as you get older. I wish it didn't take until you hit 40 to start realizing what's important in life. At least for me. I'm at the age where both my mom and dad each had less than a decade left to live. Losing to OSU ain't gonna ruin my week.

Now if we lost to nebraska...

well...

that's something definitely worth causing a huge scene over.

No reason to think this won’t be any different from the other two times Game Day came to Iowa. Two blow out losses to Ohio State.

38-13. Realistically almost no chance to win but hopefully come out healthy. Washington is a big game and maybe a tossup. At the start of the season I’m sure all of us would be more than happy to be 2-1 in this 3 game stretch

After that we have several games that could go either way but none that we can’t win

This is an almost must-win for OSU considering their loss to TX and their gauntlet of a remaining schedule.

Nice/great win for Iowa.
More urgency for OSU.

Yeah, death is standing outside the door with this one.

Phil will age a year this week trying to scheme for the QB and those WRs. I don't envy him.

The other thing working against us is that OSU is currently ranked 5th, and you can sense Day sees this particular game as an opportunity to open the eyes of the committee.

This would be the perfect time for our DEs to explode onto the scene.

I certainly agree that it doesn't look real good against Ohio State.

I will say that in watching Ohio State v. Illinois and then seeing Michigan up close, Michigan's defense appeared far superior to Ohio State's defense. Illinois had no difficulty moving the ball against them. I think Iowa can score some points against this Buckeye defense, if Kirk doesn't get too conservative. Throw the ball to set up the run! We have nothing to lose.

These games are where we need to just start launching the ball like 1980s Joe Montana.

Positively yeeting it, as the kids say.

There's really no reason not to, no one's expecting us to win anyway.

I thought we had a 50% or a little better chance against Michigan. I think we have a 60% plus chance against Washington. OSU? I think maybe a 10% chance but I'd be over the moon if we could get it done.

OSU is just a tough matchup for us. They have the best player in college football, a poised, very high completion QB, and great athletes at every position. I'd be thrilled to be wrong.

Everyone knows there's no way we're beating OSU.

Exactly! Michigan ain't no Ohio State or even close. Your earlier statement of only getting beat by 14 with no injuries I'll take.

And it's also correct that as we get older we realize the things in life that truly matter. I'll just say I'm past 65 now and I don't get as near upset as I did 20 years ago. I'm fine and dandy with an 8-4 or hopefully a 9-3 record each year. I know I'm not a Nebraska type who expects 11-1 or 12-0 every year cause they're living in the far distant past. While their attitude is so funny it's also intolerable and obnoxious.

As for this Saturday, I just don't want it to be a blowout on national TV.

Highly unlikely, but not impossible.
I mean, the chance of Iowa winning the Michigan game with 11 seconds remaining was 1.4%.
And the Buckeyes were favored by 24 pts at Kinnick the year the Hawks laid 50+ on 'em.

I had a lot of fun that day 'conversing' with OSU players and coaches during the game, since it's easy to walk down to their sideline from my seats. I never use profanity, just ask relevant questions and share observations :) . When their star TE dropped a pass I rode him pretty hard...he turned around, stared at me, and I swore he was gonna charge into the stands. I was riding Urban Meyer pretty hard too. By the 2nd half, they'd called and had a security guard standing in the aisle behind their bench -- something my friend who went to the game with me never lets me forget.

It's no fun badgering the weak teams, but engaging with the Blue Bloods and Nebraska players is always a blast.
