Iowa alumni Bob Stoops, in light of recent athletic department woes this would be a home run.
Okay, so Stoops retires less than 3 months before the football season kicks off? Lot of OU fans think something bad is coming to the Sooner program.
Sure, after being sued and labeled insensitive to the LBGTQXY community, you want to put a 56 year old white male with little to no sensitivity training and a short fuse in the AD role. (No slight, they are always adding to that gay/lesbian acronym).
I could just hear Stoops now, "I could give a rat's ass if she's your girlfriend, now get your gay ass out of my office and take your tool belt with you." It would be an interesting court hearing though.
If he did "retire" after assessing the Iowa AD situation because he wants the job then it shows remarkable strategic thinking along w/ motivation and drive. How could the U say no?Because in my humble opinion he WOULD be good at it. I think he could schmooze for tons of cash. The OU donors are a tougher crowd than Iowa's, and most LOVED him. He hired and fired many assistants, showed loyalty and also showed balls to remove many close to him when needed. He remained close to the top for most of his coaching career at a powerhouse with a tough (but loyal) fan base and a tough history. He won, a ton. So he has a history to point towards as an example of how it can be done. He dealt with a changing world by standing with players against hate crimes, and also probably learned from not flat out kicking the kid off campus for knocking that girl out.
With all that being said, he ain't coming to Iowa to be Athletic Director, but it's fun to discuss during the doldrums of June in college football world.
How about we meet in the middle and get his brother who used to be a head coach but was too emotional on the sidelines and was always switching from laughter to tears of joy to total rageface as the game went by?
