IF Fran wins One Game

No. Nobody else is coming in to hire him until he has a competative season. You can't take the risk of contract extensions or raises when your product is not yet proven. The contract buyouts are too high to take that risk.

So, No. Not even close.

To the OP...no chance.

As for Fran, he's not going anywhere. I don't see Iowa as a stepping stone for him. He's going to leave his legacy here by turning around the Hawkeye program and getting it back to where it once was. He's moved back closer to his wife's home turf, and he's going to plant roots here.

We'll just get to enjoy the ride!

I don't think a BTT win merits a raise, but the second this guy gets back to the dance, he better get a new contract. I think the tourney has to be the goal....anything less and you awarding mediocrity. I would even go as far as to say a NCAA bubble year culminating with an NIT bid would be worth of a new contract. Geez, it seems like a lifetime ago that we played meaningful ball in March.

There is ZERO reason for them to talk contract. He shouldn't be rewarded for what he has done so far, he is not in any danger of being lured away by a better or higher paying position, and his current contract is not a destabilizing force in the direction of recruiting or the program as a whole.

but neither am I so naive as to think that if a prominent program from a major Metro area out East came calling, I'm not sure he would dismiss it out of hand. Think Villanova or someone like them. If that were to occur it would mean that Iowa was enjoying/having success, making the NCAA tournament, etc. We all think Iowa is a great place to live work, but he's been here all of a year.

If he wins the BTT tourney and wins a game in the NCAA.... maybe.

I can't believe this is a legitmate question.

If Iowa has a winning record next year and the new recruits are as good as Basabe and Cartwright were this year then I would not mind him getting a small extension.

This year? No way.

It's all about leverage, and right now Fran doesn't have any (nor does he seem to be looking for any). IF a 'Nova came calling, then he would have a competing offer on the table, therefore giving him leverage. But there is no competing offer right now, so no reason to even think about an extension.
