Hope is a Strategy in Lincoln!

I LOLed at this: "Nebraska’s starting quarterbacks since Eric Crouch won the Heisman Trophy in 2001 reads like a Who’s Who of who cares. Among the 25-year run: Jammal Lord, Joe Dailey, Joe Ganz, either of the Martinezes (neither could protect the ball), Jeff Sims, Heinrich Haarberg, Dylan Raiola, and stop me when you’ve puked enough. "

I liked some of the article, but I think he missed the mark in a couple regards. One is the import of the
QB correlating with their lack of success. Everyone outside the Top 10 blue bloods struggles to find special QBs. Its not like Iowa has had great success at the QB position over the last 15 years, but Iowa still finds ways to win. What has made Nebbie a joke in college football is the lack of culture as a whole, but also the lack of line development on both sides of the ball. They have not had a culture that fits their station since Bo left. And they don't have one now. Rhule is a finesse guy. That hasn't worked for 4 hiring cycles and it aint gonna work now. He will finish .500 again this season and they are just stuck with him.

Thanks, Chicken, but who cares…

I don't know who the Nebraska AD is but he should've been fired for this deal if he hasn't already been. Although he probably didn't do it in a vacuum.

I hope the Huskers really suck this fall and all the pressure goes on Ruhle and the AD.

What? They lost their 5-star QB to Oregon who went there knowing he's going to sit out a year before getting his shot as the Duck starting QB........

Anybody notice that the Dallas Mavericks GM that engineered the Luka Doncic trade to LA got fired this year? The Mavs didn't even make the playoffs. And I saw an article just this week saying the Lakers owner has stated that Doncic's heart is still in Dallas. Can it get anymore weird. I guess the answer is yes, it can!

Yep -- Iowa's list of QBs since 2001 would look just about as bad.
Iowa's defensive and special teams coaches have been elite for a long time.
Nebraska's have not been for a long time.
Which is why even tho Nebraska has had higher ranked recruiting classes than Iowa probably 13 of the last 15 years, they haven't been able to get the job done between the hashes.

The best part of it is the timing of it all and how everything lined up for Rhule's agent to bend Nebbie over. They were 5-1 and ranked and somewhat relevant for the first time in a generation. Rhule was perceived as this turnaround savant and the Sand People actually believed they were heading to a 10 win season. The PSU job opens up right at that moment. His alma mater!! Instead of waiting to see how the season turned out, the AD panicked at the thought of losing their golden boy savior coach and reworked the contract to make it impossible to fire Rhule. The ink was not dry before the wheels came off the remainder of the season, which was actually predictable when you looked at the schedule and the softness by which Rhule crafted this squad. They lose all but one game for the remainder of the season, lose their Best QB in the Nation QB, and get punked by Iowa at home.

As an Iowa fan, I am not sure I could have written the story up much better than that. Maybe Pelini's cat showed back up and clawed Rhule's face up during pregame.

I agree with everything you said and was thinking that when I read the article. Their failures go much, much deeper than QB.

And, to fuel the fire, wasn't Ruhle rumored to have been seen in Happy Valley while the Franklin replacement search was underway when Nebby was 5-1?

I am sure his agent put that out there whether it was true or not.

It was such a dumb ploy. PSU was not going to hire Rhule mid-season. All the AD had to say was that we value our coach but are not going to cause a distraction in the middle of the season by discussing his contract. Such a moron. And, despite the bigger guarantees and buyouts, if PSU wanted Rhule it would have come and got him regardless of what his Nebbie contract says.
