Bleacher Report thinks it could happen. Trap game for the Urbanites between Ped ... Penn State ... and Sparty. Iowa would ground and pound wif Wadley and Butler. Stout defense. Could throw off not only the conference race but the national championship picture.

  1. Why it could happen

Ohio State is still smarting from a 31-0 Fiesta Bowl defeat at eventual national champion Clemson's hands, but the Buckeyes are a strong bet to get back to the College Football Playoff in 2017. Urban Meyer has built a deep, talented roster and returns 15 starters, led by senior quarterback J.T. Barrett and junior defensive end Sam Hubbard.

However, the second half of the season will be far tougher than the first, save a Sept. 9 visit from Oklahoma. Ohio State must face Penn State, Michigan State and Michigan in its final five games, and a Nov. 4 trip to Iowa looms as a possible trap between the Nittany Lions and Spartans. Iowa returns a bruising ground game led by seniors Akrum Wadley and Nevada transfer James Butler and has an experienced defense.

Kirk Ferentz's teams aren't flashy, but they are tough and dangerous, as Michigan found out last November in a 14-13 upset at Kinnick Stadium. It would be less than surprising to see the Buckeyes meet a similar fate in Iowa City if the Hawkeyes are able to get their ground game going and shut down Barrett.

.... Covering their bases... But it's not impossible. Iowa's front 7 should be awesome. Between them and Iowa's Oline/running game I think we are pretty underrated.... Just need the passing game to do their part

I always hate that trendy "trap game" talk. So cheesy. Anyway, there is a possibility there based on the strength of this years team and style Iowa plays. Iowa would have to make it ugly and ground and pound for 4 quarters using clock and keeping the ball in Iowa's territory controlling the line of scrimmage. Iowa would have to win the TOP game by a lot. If they did that, they could control the LOS and keep Ohio St off the field. They'd have to make the game ugly to have a chance.

And technically it doesn't fit the "trap game" definition..as Sparty is down significantly from past years and a team like OSU knows coming into Kinnick won't be a gimme.

F*ck the Nut. We are sooooooo due. Let's get'em Hawks.....Stanley for 3 td's, Wadley and Butler each for 1....Im dreaming, but hey, why not us, right?

been way too long since Iowa took them down

By far the toughest team for Iowa to beat in the Fry/KF era. Unless I'm mistaken 1983, 1987, 1991, & 2004 are the only wins. 1988 was a tie I think.

No doubt the difference in talent level is there. Just as an example: AJ is the highest rated recruit I can remember coming to Iowa. Lindys magazine uses 24/7 rankings and according to them Ohio St has 6 guys rated higher than AJ in their recruiting class. Obviously that will work itself out over the next 3/4 years but that is a very eye opening

Yes, a million times yes.

But I think Iowa will give them a better game then MSU, even if we lose. So I doubt they overlook us.

By that point in the season we'll know kinda where we are and if we'll have a shot at it. I'm more curious about the PSU game. It's the first BIG conference game and how we look in that win or lose should tell us a lot.

Uuuuuuuuhhhhh no.
We lost to an FCS squad in September and then went on to beat Mich & Neb back to back late in the season. Then in our next game we looked like we didn't know what a football was. It is a roll of the dice every week with KF.

True also... I'd just like to think that if Iowa only has one or 2 losses going into that game depending on how we look we might go into it lessor of an underdog then either of those games were. I guess that's all I meant. I can't forsee Iowa being a favorite in it but could it being under a 10 pt to a touchdown margin or so. We were like a 17 pt underdog to Michigan last yr I think...

Kirk's not an Urban fan to say the least. If he could have one win this year, it would be against tOSU. He'll have 'em ready to spring the upset.

Iowa just never beats a good OSU team. 2004 and 1991 were not good OSU teams. The 2017 buckeye team is good. So we are looking at 30 years since the Hawks have beaten a good OSU squad. I put the odds at about 3 1/3%. So I'm saying I suppose it could happen.

Yeah they rarely have. in 1983 OSU ended the season ranked #9 and 2004 they were #20. But 2004 was still a down team for Ohio St until they picked things up toward the end of the season.

1987 and 1991 were unranked at the end of the season. The 1988 tie was to an Ohio St team that ended up with a losing record.
