Hawks post solid 1st Round at NCAA tourney.

The Hawks took advantage of their favorable seeds and had a strong first round at the NCAAs.

The first 4 guys all won with major decision bonus points, including #15 Block at 149 over the #18 guy.
Caliendo then got a fall, Kennedy a regular decision, Ferrarri a major, and Keuter a regular decision.

The only loss was #27 Arnold vs the #6 guy from Oregon St. Arnold took him to OT, got out himself in 4 seconds, but could only hold the guy for 3 seconds, so lost. Normally you would just grab onto the guys legs for 5 seconds, but Arnold already had a stall warning, so was probably reluctant to do that. Still, gotta hold on for at least 2 seconds, then let go, and you still probably win. Tough loss for a guy who's wrestling up to 23 lbs above his normal wrestling weight. If there was a 'Chris Street Award for the Iowa wrestling team, Arnold should win it...he's busted his ass for this team, and just can't overcome the weight differential he's giving up every match.

So, all 8 guys favored to win did so, with 6 of them getting bonus points.

Iowa St. did not have a good round, losing at least two guys seeded 13th or higher. Nebraska also lost a #13 seed match.

But overall, out of 160 matches, not many major upsets.

I see there were two major upsets of Top 8 seeded guys: a #6 Nebraska seed, and a #4 Virginia Tech seed.

Iowa currently sits in 2nd place after the 1st Round.

Fairly solid overall.

I'm starting to wonder if something is going on with Block.

First, he had #1 in the country beat in the B1Gs, then somehow found a way to lose with simple mental mistakes.

In the late session yesterday, he was right there with the #2 seed, then gives up a TD from a mile away that sealed the match. He just stood there and didn't even react until the guy was in on the ankle.

Block has a ton of natural talent, but something above the shoulders is holding him back.
