Hawks now a 1.5 pt underdog....

Didn't last week's line do a similar move? Start at -2 for Iowa, then over the course of the week slowly trended Wisconsin's way? Until finally, by game time last week, Wisky was favored by 2 points or so?

Thankfully, games aren't played on betting boards, but on football fields, and this team is undefeated on the football field this year!

I dont get it...MI State hasnt beaten anyone (Michigan is debatable - much like IA State beating the hawks when they shouldnt). I mean seriously Montana State, Illi, Northwestern...4-3! Are we still paying for tight games against UNI and Ark st?? I guess at the end of the day my bookie is the one that's really upset. Franklin tells me Hawks by 14 in this one.

I wonder when the last time a top ten BCS team went into a game against an unranked opponent as the underdog.

This is good news in my mind. Joe Public must be putting a lot of money on MSU. Joe Public is usually wrong.

Line movement has nothing to do with who vegas thinks is going to win the game. It is all about where the money is going and how they can even it out for both sides. A 1.5 pt underdog on the road is pretty much the favorite in my book!

Depends on WHEN the line moved

The early money is usually JOE PUBLIC. For example, last week the Wisconsin-Iowa line moved from Iowa a slight favorite to a slight underdog by Tuesday. That's JOE PUBLIC, and JOE PUBLIC was wrong.

However, WISE GUY places his money late looking for the latest information and most value on the current line. So if the line has moved towards MSU since Thursday that's WISE GUY making that line move, not JOE PUBLIC.

Not saying WISE GUY is never wrong, and I'm picking Iowa to win, but WISE GUY is proven right more often than not.

I think this has a lot to do with the opinoin of Joe Public. My friend, who is a Nebraska fan, was in Vegas for the Arizona Game. He watched that game at a sportsbook. He called me before the game and I told him that I really liked Iowa. After he hung up, here started talking to some USC fans who started bashing the Big Ten, Iowa couldn't keep up with AZ speed, etc. Because of all this Iowa bashing, no one in the sportsbook picked Iowa (including my idiot Nebraska friend). I had a great time rubbing that one in after the game. Also enjoyed mentioning that Nebby lost to VT that day.

I think it's great. When Ferentz was on Dan Patrick's show you could here the derision in his voice when he talked about being an underdog this week. I'm sure he plays the "no respect you're a bunch of mutts us against the world" card to the hilt with his team. I hope we're dogs in every game we play, especially when we go to the shoe.
