The ONLY thing that would matter to me is if this were to have an effect on his getting into the HOF. There is a 60% winning percentage requirement and KF is very close to the line. It would be a shame if he doesn't end up making it someday because of this nonsense.

In case you were wondering, over the first 5 years of the portal era, Iowa added something like 8 transfers, second lowest in P4 (behind Clemson). Colorado added about 95 players, most in the P4 by a mile (Ole Miss was somewhere around 85).
So, the only 2 P4 programs to be investigated by the NCAA for portal tampering are Colorado, who has added 95 players over the last 5 years, and Iowa, who has added 8.

Why does this matter to you? It is not a representation to your personality or the quality of the person you are. If Kirk doesn't make it will you lose family, friends. or significant financial stability? Of course not.
Will the people closest to you think you are a dirt bag because Kirk did not get into the HOF? I get a kick out of watching on TV during games the faces of fan bases at games, both college basketball and college football. The stress on their faces is comical. You would think they just left the waiting area and are now sitting in the patient's room and are waiting to hear from the doctor on how their cancer scans came out.

Head coach record at Maine 12-21
Iowa"s record with Kirk Ferentz in charge before vacated wins:. 213-128
Total overall record before vacated wins; 225-149 (.6016)
Now subtract 4 vacated wins in 2023
Then subtract 1 win in 2024 that he sat out for a suspension.
Total overall record with vacated wins:
220-149 (.596)
If I did that right, does that mean he is no longer elligilbe for the hall of fame? I know they made an exception for Mike Leach. In the end does it matter?

This is technically still below .600 but now it at least rounds up to .600. I think that was the argument they used when Mike Leach was voted into the HOF.

I get how many feel that other schools & coaches have done much worse, and I agree with all that, but I wish they had waited until he entered the portal and not broken the rules in the first place. Knowing other schools & coaches have done much worse doesn't make what they did right.

I think KF is in regardless. There's no way they don't give him a waiver after being with the same team for 30+ years and having say, a .598 record.

I think it was probably a misunderstanding of the rules rather than intentional, but at the end of the day that's why teams have compliance people...to make sure coaches don't have to worry about it. The rules are the rules.
If anything, we look the least stupid out of anyone. Every fan at every school knows their team does the same thing and Iowa can say at least they paid the piper. It's like making fun of someone who got busted jay-walking. Literally everyone does it.

Sports is a way to get the thrill of life-or-death situations without the consequences. Sure, you can shield yourself from the anxiety by reminding yourself that none of this really matters...but that also lessens the elation when something spectacular happens.
I am mostly in the camp of "this doesn't matter and is just a fun diversion," but I also know that I can never feel the rush of those fans who live and die by each game after an amazing win. I don't look down on them for treating sports this way, but it also doesn't make sense for me in my particular life situation. Maybe once I am retired, I will become a live-and-die guy again?

The problem I have is that this was a technical violation at best. Everyone knew CM was leaving Michigan. Yes, Iowa jumped the gun by hours in an era where the portal and its real rules versus its pretend rules were still being sussed out, and then Iowa, being Iowa, was transparent about what happened and fell on its sword. This was absolutely no harm, no foul. The kid was leaving anyway, it was a question of where.
Juxtapose that with the NCAA slapping Michigan on the wrist for cheating their way to a nattie.
Or, what are they doing about what is going on in the SEC? Google Dabo Tampering and your get a picture of the crap that is going on.

In 2-3 years, the SEC and the Big10 are going to vote to break away from the NCAA in football. When that happens, Iowa should demand these four games back in exchange for their vote. F the NCAA.
It matters way less than you think it does to me. Do I think KF deserves to be in the HOF? Absolutely. Is it life or death? Not even close. And not to the extent you suggest. Read my comments again.
Keep hoping Iowa fires him so we can get the next Cignetti. And hold your breath until that happens.

The F'in NCAA sucks. They are just a bunch of hypocrites. They clearly cherry-pick who they want to "punish" and who they want to let go. It's utterly ridiculous. They always seem to come down on the smaller guys to make it look like they are doing something or policing the sports. The blue bloods always seem to get a slap on the hands without any major punishment for much worse actions.
Look at AZ, Kansas, etc. in basketball. Several years ago it was announced that there was going to be a big investigation and certain schools were going to get hit. Well, what happened to that? They never had chit come down on them and AZ was even in the finals this year. Nothing happened to them. The NCAA doesn't mess with the Blue Bloods.
Now, I admit the 4 vacated wins for Iowa doesn't really hit that hard but it's just the optics of now the NCAA investigates and/or treats certain schools comparted to others. Look at the Drew Ott decision. What a crock of shit that was compared to what has come out later by other players. The NCAA doesn't seem to have consistent standards which really bothers me. It shouldn't be that hard to come up with specific standards for infractions and the consequences for breaking them. Let schools know after a legit investigation is completed and you are found guilty you get this punishment. Provide the schools with a menu of all this shit.
