Has there ever been a BTen Center like Banks...

...who hit 30 consecutive FTs?

Seriously, how often does ANY BTen Center make 30 in a row in practice, let alone in games?
Curious minds want to know.

He is not a center. Hilariously, ESPN lists him as a G. Iowa official page has him as a G/F.

But 30 FTs in a row is incredibly rare. Even more so for a post player (which I think is the best description for him).

I once made 18 in a row at the Knights of Columbus Youth Free Throw Competition in Milford. I won and made it to the regionals in Harlan where I missed going to state by 1 FT. No way my Dad would have driven me to Des Moines for state anyway, so probably best that I lost.

I never kept track but I'm guessing 3 in a row was my closest attempt at the record.

The way Banks' offensive game is coming on, he is actually giving me some poor man's Jimmy Butler vibes lately.

Similar body types and approaches to the game. 100% dog, both will fight you for every rebound and loose ball.

Butler started in junior college, too, and was a late bloomer...

Banks is kind of a Temu version of Tyler Cook.

I agree, post player is a good description for him. But he is sort of a swiss-army type of player, the way he's been stepping out and nailing 3s too!

Naah, you were right in a previous thread. Instead of Ryan Bowen and Daryl Moore…the love child is Ryan Bowen and Kenyon Murray.

Not only is Banks not a center, the idea of a "center" isn't what it was 20 years ago. Centers are no longer big loping guys who can't shoot from outside of 6 feet. Plenty of big men routinely hover around the 3 point line.

Agreed. Hell, Garza was the last true center we had, and he was a damn good three point shooter. If you cannot shoot the 3 in today's day and age, its hard to find the floor. You better be able to rebound and protect the rim like a banshee.

Tyler Cook was a true power forward. He had 3 three pointers in 3 years at Iowa. And had about 40 pounds on Banks.

I'm really curious if Banks can keep expanding his perimeter game. He's shooting 54% from 3, and made seven of them over the last four games. I recall McCollum saying something about him being able to shoot the 3 when he transferred last summer, but that he hadn't done it in games yet.

Hitchhiking was safer back then.
