Compare that to McCollum who is an ELITE defensive coach, and at least at lower levels, was also an elite offensive coach in the way that offensive success is best measured.

This is why one guy has won natties and made it to the Elite 8, and the other has taken 5 teams to the Dance but never made it out of the first weekend. Both are great basketball coaches, but Ben McCollum is simply on a whole other level compared to Fran.

Agreed, and in general, his substitution patterns and general bench coaching abilities were questionable at times. Sometimes he pushed the right buttons, sometimes he did not. I will never agree with his rigid removal of big men if there was foul trouble.

That said, we are debating his abilities as an offensive coach overall. He was great at identifying underrecruited talent that fit into his system, and he had a good mind for spacing, flow, and creating favorable shot selections. Too bad for Fran that the game is played on both ends.....

And he really emphasized that to his bench and assistants after one occurred (I distinctly remember it was Alvaro taking the shot a couple times).

Oh I think it was a money issue. For the right price you don't think Ben woulda wanted him back? I don't know what that number woulda been or how far from it they were but Louisville gave him a ton. One rumor I heard was 3 milly.

Granted with our roster as it sits losing him wasn't some huge insurmountable thing. Time will tell I suppose. But had he wanted to come back and the number was whatever Ben woulda been good with I think he woulda been back. Guess we'll never really know though

You can't overlook the defense. If done right, it's the constant in basketball and travels. You have Fran who could score the ball with his offenses and had some good out-of-bounds plays but gave up a lot with his defense. He simply tried to just outscore teams. It worked against the teams you should beat or many average teams, but as you point out above, it became noticeable and an issue against the top teams which make the tournament. Also, you may coach great out-of-bound plays that score, but let's be honest, that's only a few chances a game.


Contrast that with Ben. Ben has teams that play outstanding defense and he seems to coach and offense that is efficient in scoring. I'll take that formula compared to just trying to outscore teams 2 times a week any and everyday.

Caitlin is always a pleasure to watch and this year's version of the Indiana Fever is Really fun

He was from Boston and after WWII moved to Philadelphia, because of my Mother he loved the Celtics and taught me how to watch the games on TV

Watched the Celtics with Bob Cousy, and later with Bill Russel vs the Philadelphia Warriors
with Wilt Chamberlain and Paul Arizin who shot the first jump shot

I dearly loved the Drake teams coached by Maury John and Ralph Miller's Hawkeye teams

But Caitlin's Indiana Fever team is as good as any of the teams I have watched over the years

Simply a pleasure to watch, and of course, I am in love with Sophie Cunningham

Just a bit of hyperbole. Clark has changed the women’s league no doubt. I do enjoy watching them But they have very good players in addition to Clark and are in 6th place. Clark is having a good year shooting like 35% from 3 and a ton of assists. But she leads the league in turnovers by a wide margin. We shall see if they win it all

They might not win it all this year, the Minnesota Lynx look very good

The Fever are fun to watch and when they are on, the teamwork is a pleasure to watch

Caitlin is being criminally attacked almost each and every game and the refs let it go on sometimes
calling a foul on Caitlin when she is slammed to the floor in a vicious manner

The zebras are the absolute worst I have ever seen

For some reason they seem to have an attitude toward Caitlin
