Got our Qb for 27 class

He kinda reminds me of CJB. He's a TN kid 6'2-6'3/205-210ish. Athletic can run some with a good enough arm. He comes from the burbs of Memphis. Not too far from where Brandon Smith came from in MS.

Kid's got some wheels, and talent sure looks better than to be ranked #71 in his class.

Going forward, it looks like Lester is most interested in QBs who can run, escape the pocket, and make plays with his legs. This dude certainly fits that bill.

This looks like a solid get. I hate how unexcited I am about landing high school recruits these days....
Yeah whens the last time a kid Iowa recruited in as a freshmen ended up starting for us week 1 of a season? It's not going to be this yr unless Jimmy Sullivan leap frogs two guys. We've had nothing but transfers come in and start for the most recent history going back to Petras I think.

Was Drew Tate a true freshman who started?

I take it Bessinger is not on campus yet? Been quiet on him

If Boise State and BYU were after him the kid has something going for him. Both of those schools are HEAVILY offensive minded programs.

High School Production

Bessinger’s senior season at Davis was elite:

  • Passing: 333‑of‑438 (76%) for 4,313 yards, 53 TDs, 4 INTs Sports Illustrated+1.
  • Rushing: 67 carries for 173 yards, 2 TDs 247Sports.
  • Career totals: 836‑of‑1,199 (69.7%) for 10,908 yards, 127 TDs, 21 INTs; 199 carries for 395 yards, 7 TDs 247Sports+1.

Recruiting Context

Bessinger was ranked among the top QBs in Utah and nationally, with 247Sports listing him as the No. 14 QB in the 2026 class and ESPN ranking him ninth KSL News. He had been committed to Boise State since May but reopened his recruitment in late October, visiting multiple Power 5 programs before committing to Iowa

I think us landing him is as much why we didn't land the Nawrot kid. Lester has to be salivating at the chance to develop a kid like this. Depending how this yr goes and the whole 5 yr rule being made we might have a 4 yr starter on our hands with Bessinger

I don't even look at names of any players anymore until a couple weeks before the season, sadly.

They should change the term for this from "committed" to, "As long as no one gives me a better offer I intend to play football here."
That's why I used the word might. Everybody is a FA after each yr so the odds of a 4 yr starter at QB seems kinda preposterous. I said what I said in that it would just be a possibility
