Good Jonny Mullings Article

Re: Good Johnny Mullings Article

Sorry, saw someone had posted this yesterday....

The video of him punting on youtube has been taken down...in the article, Mullings said that was just to showcase himself for colleges...no need for that now :)

Kinda looks like Stanzi. I hope he is as good as advertised considering Special teams is one of the strongest points of an Iowa team.

If Iowa can find a guy that can regularly get touchbacks, with this defense? Seriously..that is points on the board for an offense that has less field to drive to score points.

I think the ideal kick is super high and right at the 1 yard line. Just like punts. Don't give them a touchback, but give the coverage a chance to get there.

I bet he'll compete for kickoffs.

The ideal kick is a touchback. Period. Let's say you get lucky every once in awhile and stop a team just short of the 20. You will rarely ever stop a team inside the 15 yard line unless the player bobbles the ball. So to me, the possible advantage that you gain by kicking the ball at the 1 yard line or goal line to gain at most 5 yards doesn't begin to outweigh the consequences of a player running the ball out to the 30-40 yard line which is a decent possibility in this day in age. So the kickoff team could gain maybe 5 yards but have a chance to lose 10-20 yards. No thanks. I will take a touchback at the 20 yard line every single time.

+1 and good luck to the young man.Don't know how long he'll stick it out since he's 22 yrs old.

Nate got to the point that he could kick the ball really high and Iowa was pinning teams within their 20 with some regularity. Also, he could just kick the thing through the darn uprights. It really put the other team in a difficult situation where they made a lot of bad decisions. If you expect the kicker to kick it through the endzone, you are not going to be all that concerned with blocking.
