I friggin love what Photoshop has done for the comedy industry. Love it.
Yah. Photoshop was golden. I'm ambivalent about AI.
Not because it can be so good. Just 'anyone' can do it.
Photoshop has a learning curve. So, generally you have to have some smarts to use it.
AI? I mean....literally anyone. Including me. And that's not always good.
I wrote an app that you can fire up when you're travelling in the car and then it's like having this really knowledgable passenger in the car who will narrate quick stories about places you pass by. Historical sites, geological things, famous people's birthplaces and burials. Cultural centers. Roadside attractions. Stuff like that. Uses AI to write a script based on data pulled from data in a massive database I created and then uses an AI TTS to deliver the voice. It's quite fun if you're into that kind of thing. I made it for me so I'm not bummed it hasn't taken off. If anyone wants to try it out, I can send a link and a code for a free 12 months. Also, it can find you restaurants (by category) at preset intervals (like 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours) along your route and show you how much of a detour it is off your route....which Google is too stupid to figure out how to do on Google maps. You have to manually predict a place you want to look and then do a manual search for "restaurants near xyz".
I wrote the entire thing using AI's help. The database though? All me. Pulled from Wikidata, Wikipedia, National Register of Historic Places, USGS data, National Parks data sets, other random data sets. All this GIS stuff. Fascinating. It's what my kid wants to do.
Anyway....again...long story longer....
I needed to make some TikyToks and Instas and FB ads to try to promote it. So instead of trying to film in a car and drive all over....I used some generative AI video platforms to create a scene of a couple driving in the car kind of shot from the backseat catching the whole windscreen view and dashboard. Various backgrounds....mountains, rolling fields of corn, forest.....and then had the audio from various narrations recorded from the app.
When I was done, I had leftover credits to use. So...since I've been hooked on "romantic Korean workplace television shows" (that's the suggested category Netflix created for me).....
I supplied it pictures of me and my wife. And asked it to recreate the tropey scene in all these where the rich guy (but kind hearted) chaebol son walks into the conglomerate building with his entourage and the kindly yet spunky smart girl from the lower class family who works there in a lowly position rushes across the floor with her high heels clattering to grab the chaebol by the wrist before he gets into the elevator. And then the camera gets sunflashy and hazy and the pop love song music swells.....
Yah. I'm gonna tell you the result was exceptionally astounding. I mean, it was me and my wife in a Korean very real looking Kpop love drama. Very creepy to see yourself like that. I showed it to my older dad who's aware of AI and all that. And his first thought was that I literally got friends together and rented an office building lobby and made a film. I literally only gave the AI faceshots. And it somehow created both body size/shape/height differential spot on. And even the voices were......similarish. Just freakish. Also had enough credits to have my son winning Wimbledon and accepting the trophy and a kiss from Princess Kate.
Seriously, if anyone's curious about my app....let me know.
