Funny secondhand story from Ann Arbor

My kid (m22) went with a coworker and a couple other dudes to the game on Saturday. I distinctly warned my kid to not be an asshat and get into trouble.
He's not an asshat, but you know....he's a kid. He drinks beer. And can be a bit of a kid/provoker.

In that respect, he behaved well. And said overall Michigan fans were cool throughout the full visit and even after the game.

The funny bit....

Before the game on the scoreboard, you know....they show a bunch of videos and stuff. And at one point the scoreboard read (I googled to get the full text):

"This is the University of Michigan. What a football game we're going to have here this afternoon... This football game for men of the nation will rock with the praises of the maize and blue... where we respect integrity and honor excellence. The jubilation will cheer long into the night. Here come the loyal Wolverines!"

One of the members of his Hawkeye group made a crack at the "respect integrity" bit.
A Michigan fan right in front of them turned and said something along the lines of "We respect integrity......doesn't mean we have it."

Overall, sounds like Michigan fans were pretty chill.

That is funny! Kind of on par with one of my good friends that is a Michigan fan. Personally, and I think I am speaking broadly, I have never had any problems with Michigan or OSU fans. PSU maybe not as good as those first two, but overall pretty good. I am probably more of an ass to Wisconsin fans than they are to me and Minnesota doesn't have any fans. But then that leaves Nebraska, the most insufferable, annoying, entitled and self-glorified group of the bunch.

made me laugh at lest they were honest about it

This is what cracks me up about Michigan. They truly think their shit doesn't stink. The one thing they have always held over Ohio State is that they are a bunch of smarty pants and more like an ivy league school while OSU is a bunch of mouth breathing, SEC wanna bes (and hey, OSU fans are exactly that). Michigan probably had that moral high ground historically, but they have absolutely lit that on fire over the last decade.

What's crazy is they have somehow become perhaps the biggest bad boy/cheater program in the history of the conference...during an era where kids no longer have to go class or pretend to be students and where there are no rules when it comes to paying the players! Not easy.

The last Michigan game in Kinnick their fans weren't too bad. I think they know their program isn't what it was and it's also tarnished as hell.

It's the loud douche bags that make them seem worse.

nebraska and Wisconsin fans are FAR worse.

Something to do with the red/white color scheme I guess.

For the conference title game in Indy in '21 I accidentally bought tickets in the Michigan section. Everyone around me was cordial. A number of them said they respected KF and Iowa. Shit, by the third quarter they were expressing sympathy to my son. :) I would take a Michigan fan over an OSU fan any day.

I don't remember who it was...woulda been whoever was the MI QB in the first year or two of the Wave.
Back when it was so new, it was hit or miss if any of the opposing teams participated or not. Which NEVER bothers me. I love it when they do. But I'm totally good with them if they don't. They got stuff to do. I dunno. It just doesn't bother me.

Whoever the MI QB was....was apparently known for visiting children's hospitals in Ann Arbor and stuff and had talked about it that week that he was looking forward to it. Dude sprinted to midfield and waved like there was no tomorrow with a HUUGE smile on his face. I appreciated that. It felt genuine.
