Four new staff members

I was looking at the football coaching staff and I noticed Stetson McIlravy. I looked at his bio to see if he may be Lincoln's brother/cousin, etc. It's his son. I'm so old.

Worst part is 95% of the people here have no idea who Lincoln is.

Kevin Spencer was on the Cleveland Browns staff under Bill Belichick at same time as Kirk Ferentz.

some trivia on Stetson McIlravy:

McIlravy served as the men's golf team captain at Southwestern Community College (SWCC) in Creston in 2021-23, where he was a two-time NJCAA Region XI student-athlete council nominee, a two-time member of the NJCAA student-athlete council and SWCC student-athlete advisory committee member.

McIlravy graduated with a bachelor's of science degree in health studies from the University of Iowa in 2025 and an associate of arts degree from SWCC in 2023. A native of Solon, Iowa, he is a four-year Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society member.

Kyle Hazell trivia:

What exactly do analysts do?
Sit and watch film all day?

And what exactly does a Special Teams Quality Control person do?

Asking for a friend...

Stetson is Lincoln's middle child. Very nice young man, but very competitive as were all of his kids.

The way I understand it is yes they sit and watch film. Chart tendencies for situations etc. chart alignments substitutions etc to help with game planning. Would be a great job if you were a film junky without a lot of the travel for some of the positions

Also, say if there are 3 special teams guys they divide the responsibility. One would have putting, one field goals, and one kickoffs.

I know the two offensive analysts we had last year were tasked with watching film on opponents well in advance of the game. They would look for tendencies so when Tim Lester started his game plan the week ahead of that game, he would have a better understanding of how to attack that defense. I know he said that it helped him a lot since he wasn't going into an opponent blind on the Sunday before the game.

Where would rank him in all-time Hawk wrestlers?
My top 5 all time…

1) Tom Brands - Olympic gold, world championship, 3x national NCAA champ, 4x AA.

2) Ed Banach - same as above minus world championship. Career cut short by concussions and has CTE pretty bad, if he had had a chance to have a more extensive international career he would’ve been crazy.

3) Lincoln McIlravy - Olympic bronze, 2x world medalist, 3x national champ, 4x national finalist, 4x AA.

4) Terry Brands - Olympic bronze, 2x world champ, 2x NCAA national champ, 3x AA.

5) Spencer Lee - Olympic silver, 3x NCAA national champ, 4x AA.

Honorable mention: Randy Lewis. Got screwed by the Olympic boycott in 1980 and being in the same weight class as John Smith later on.

Guys with no international career are automatically excluded. Freestyle is what the rest of the planet considers wrestling and being dominant in both is otherworldly. Terry gets the easy nod over Lee because Lee doesn’t have anywhere near the freestyle resume Terry does. The Brands’ just completely annihilated international wrestling in their weight classes for quite a while.

Had Spencer gone 4x NCAA and won that gold medal match a couple years ago he goes straight to the top of the list zero question. I’m honestly scared for his mental health long term, no joke. He’s been a basket case since losing to Ramos and getting that silver medal, and tilted like a pinball machine since then. People like Lee can’t process losing and it’s not good for their psyche. If he can come back somehow and find a gold in a couple years I think he’ll be ok, but I don’t see it happening to be honest. He’s too deep in his own head. He did just win in Zagreb the other day but that was much lesser competition and the finals was a medical forfeit by RBY, a guy who got his ass handed to him in the Olympics.

I like your list.

They are all very close, but I would go with this:

1. Banach
2. Tom
3. McIlravy
4. Lee
5. Barry Davis (you didn't include him, but all-time wins leader for Iowa and a silver medalist)
6. Terry
