For folks who wrote off the Hawkeye wrestlers after the Penn St. dual...

...I hope you watched tonight's dual at Nebraska. With Nebraska favored in a majority of weights, the Hawks came out and dominated. Hawks won the battle of subs at 125, then #10 Ayala came out and wrestled like the past two years -- for the first time this season -- and beat the #8 guy 12-6. After 8 bouts, Nebraska had one win of 1-0, and their second win was a 2-1 OT match decided by questionable officiating. That's it. Hawks led 22-6 at that point.

Each of the first 8 guys came out to win and set the tone. Aggressive, smart, gritty, gutty...in front of 7,000 hostile fans.

These guys are putting in the work -- don't give up on these Hawks!

Still a fight for third or fourth. Hard to get interested when your team and every page team is already in the consolation bracket.

Come back after the B1Gs. They've always wrestled better in duals (minus PSU) than they do in tournaments.

With Endene gone, their ceiling is probably 4th, more likely 5th or 6th. Probably won't have any individual end up higher than 3rd at the NCAAs.
But a lot of these guys (Ayala, Caliendo, Kennedy) have put their heart and soul into the Iowa program for years, and since they work harder than any other Iowa student-athlete on campus, I have no problem getting interested in them or the team. They've represented the UI and the state well; I'm in their corner and will be cheering them on to the end.

Don't see the Hawks unless they are on TV so I might be missing something...does Keuter ever do anything offensively? What WAS a great recruiting get is disappointing in terms of his pedigree versus results. He's either too slow (last night) or too small to engage (the common excuse). Not knocking the kid as a person but as a wrestler he doesn't seem to have the offense short of horsing an physically inferior opponent.

125- good to see Cruz win.
133- Great to see Drake back winning.
141- Got robbed.
149- A Stud
157- I think he is wrestling smart. He knows what he can do and cant do.
165- Does his job.
174- Does his job.
184- Good job. Great to have a backup that good.
197- Going to have to put in ludington or Arnold to have a chance to Fire on all cylinders.
HWT- Ferrari is just tough to beat. Ben needs to work on take downs.
Coaching - Nothing wrong with the coach last night.
Not bad beating the #6 team in the nation at their home turf, and without two of our starters.

Keuter was a terrible recruiting choice. Blasting high school kids for four years does not equal success in college. Happens all the time. Keuter is smack in the middle between weights and it was never gonna work.

Arnold is a 174, it’d be a disaster to put him at 197

Yeah I just meant in general it’s a fight for 3rd or 4th for everyone with OSU and Penn State.

I’d be surprised if the Hawks finished 5 or 6.

It seems that when we get into the NCAAs, other teams pick it up a notch.
I see - Penn State, Both OSU, Iowa State, and even Neb. ahead of us when all said and done.

Just like that, after attending tonight’s Minnesota dual in Carver, Iowa was a total bore. Iowa favored in most of the matches went back to the “bend don’t brake Brands wrestling. And it bit them in the ass. A lot of frustrated fans, also surprised on the amount of empty seats. Not to mention the lack of recruits(1 i believe) to replenish this year senior class. And the depth chart is not looking good at all

Wrestling has been losing my interest slowly each year. I don’t even attempt to watch anymore with the very lethargic effort.

Yeah, other than Ayala, Caliendo & Kennedy (and Keuter actually TAKING A SHOT), last night was simply bad. Worst performance of the season, without a doubt -- even vs PSU they showed more fight and energy. The past couple years Nebraska has been the poster child for inconsistent performances...Iowa may be trying to challenge them for that honor.

What's the story with Peterson and Ferrari's injuries? Tough to look great when 20% of your lineup isn't on the mat.

not sure with Peterson. Take it for what it’s worth but several hawkeye wrestling post have said Ferrari wasn’t getting blood to circulate to his legs. Making them weak. So he had surgery to repair it. Out 6-12 weeks. It’s why he wasn’t at the meet Friday. Like i said take it for what it’s worth but i doubt Brands will let fans know why they both missed.

Brands also came out in his press conference. Pissed off, he said 2 guys quit wrestling before the match was over. Seemed really irate about it
