Flush the Trojans down the toilet Men's Basketball Game Thread

Thought we started using too much clock on offense around the six-seven minute mark.

USC forced three consecutive bad possessions and had a fourth until the foul.

Thank God!

I didn’t start watching until seven. Finally caught up. The first ten minutes and the last five sucked. The middle twenty-five had me wanting to yell I love this team. All that matters is getting the W. Go Hawks.

McCollum's strategy against Woods was to avoid following him. Iowa basically let him score without stopping the clock. You probably think I'm crazy for posting that. But if Iowa fouls its a 3 point play with the clock stopped. Evidently the NBA it's ok to travel is now in place.

Just finished watching. Holy cow I could feel my pulse in my throat! A win is a win! One thing stood out, do the Hawks need to look at wearing different shoes? This team slips and is on the floor more than any team I have ever seen...

When this team is good, it is fun to watch. When it is bad, it is really bad. That game was like a dental appointment with gas as a kid in NW Iowa. Anxiety as you walk in, nitric oxide high in the middle, coming off the high and pain sets in, and then a nice lollypop as you walk out.

Is the NBA still going? I haven't watched it since around '98 or so.

I'm wondering if Woods is actually legit and found his mojo all the sudden, or if he just reached in his pocket for his car keys and pulled out a unicorn.

I kept thinking BM could do something to slow down Woods, double team him, something but they never did. Maybe the post about wanting the clcok to kepp running was right. I'm sure M has his process.....

but in the end..........

A 1 point win is all you need

If this got mentioned in the broadcast, I didn't catch it but weren't Alvaro and Woods teammates last year at Robert Morris?

There is such a different vibe from McCollum on the sideline. He just seems to be so focused on the team playing a certain way. We could not buy a bucket and were turnover machines the first 10 minutes. He just kept working and grinding and so did the kids. Then it just turned on in the second half. Yes, the lead disappeared, but that happens with evenly matched teams. Iowa could have lost if that 25 feet prayer went in, yes, but it felt like Iowa was in control even as the lead dwindled.

With Fran, you just felt like he would sub and change Ds and scream and try all sorts of tricks, but with McCollum its more like KF: "Keep doing what we do, just do it better, boys."

In this game it was more a function of Woods having the night of his life. That kid could've been wearing a blindfold 17 beers deep and he wouldn't have missed last night. If that doesn't happen we cruise by 15.

I like this team and coach. Might not be this year but I think he's going to elevate things firmly above Fran.
