Expansion: Apparently this rumor might have some legs....

if you believe this "source".

A while back ago I posted the link below:

WildcatReport.com - Message Boards

It is a NW poster who claimed to have spoken with someone on the "inside" of Big Ten expansion. You can read the OP's post in the link above, but this is the gist of it:

- The Big Ten is almost solely focusing its efforts on Texas, ND, and Nebbie (and the Big Ten is "getting hot with" those three schools as well)

- The Big Ten will consider allowing Texas and ND to only play 7 conference games in order to get them to agree to Big Ten membership (but an 8-0 Big Ten team will always trump a 7-0 Texas/ND in conference)

- The Big East and Big Ten have had discussions. Essentially, the Big Ten has told the Big East that if Notre Dame joins the Big Ten, the Big Ten WILL NOT poach any Big East teams.

- The Big Ten does not want a playoff in college football...they want a couple of extra non conference games and move the regular season back a couple of weeks....still ending the season with rivalry games.

Regardless of whether or not you believe the above, the story I'm about to post is certainly something of note if it is indeed accurate. Read it and come to your own conclusions:

SpartanNation.com: Your Home for Michigan State & Detroit Sports Big Ten Expansion Part Three

Of the most interest is this particular entry, which is speaking about the original link I posted:

On a message board called the Wildcat Report on May 8, 2010, a poster put a message up. He claimed to have been with someone from the Big Ten office who gave him information on the expansion efforts.

Not a big deal, people go on message boards all the time and say things. What made this a big deal was the reaction of Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany. According to my source that works at the Big Ten who spoke to Spartan Nation on the condition of anonymity because of Delany’s comments in this meeting, “The Commissioner was livid. He called a staff meeting for the office and that isn’t normal at all. In fact, it is a rare thing. He likes to meet in small groups if he meets at all. He cited this post and said if he found out who it was he would fire the person for talking or anyone else for speaking. All of us walked out and wanted to read the post because as angry as he was it had to hit home. One of my coworkers even said to me 15 seconds after we left the room, I can’t wait to read it.” The source went on to add, “There has been so much S***(fecal matter) thrown around about expansion and he didn’t really get to fired up until this. This one hit home. Clearly, Notre Dame and Texas are in play.” I have hence heard about the Delany meeting from three other sources with knowledge of it, and all of their accounts match the above.

If this is accurate, Texas is most definitely in play for the Big Ten. The above post comes on the heels of Delany saying himself that the Big Ten is concerned with the "southern population shift". The above story could be complete hogwash....but it is intriguing to say the least.

In order to believe this story, you have to believe that someone on the inside of the situation was called in by their boss, told they were fired if they talked about it, and then promptly went out and talked about it.

I don't believe a word.

I stopped reading when it said they wanted
more nonconference games.
Less than a zero % chance that happens.

It actually parallels a story that was posted about Barta talking about the Big 10 and the rust belt and the southern shift of population.

Do I think that the bigTen wants TX and ND? Yes
Do I think they will treat them differently to get them? No
Do I believe this leak, or the original leak? No, seems like fantasy land built off of some facts.

ND is not going to do anything unless it overly benefits or compensates ND. Same with texas. .01 was the last straw for nebraska.
