Expansion and Negative Recruiting

Curious to know if people think that "negative" recruiting against certain programs and conferences will ramp up in the next 1-2 years because of the potential for conference reallignment.

I could definitely see it being used against the Big East and Big 12 schools because who is to say that either of those conferences will be viable in 2 years.

I was just coming to the boards to ask this very question :)

I don't think it hurts the big 4 in the Big 12 (Texas, Tamu, OK and NE) because they will end up someplace good regardless - but it very well could hurt the other 8 teams as well as the entire Big East.

If it isn't going to hurt UT, A&M, OK, and NE, then it probably isn't going to hurt the big programs of the Big East either, because the rumors have them joining the Big Ten.

Just like the previous poster indicated, it will most likely hurt the teams from the Big East and Big 12 that other leagues won't be clamoring to pick up... um, cough, ISU.

However, I could actually see it hurting Iowa if the newly expanded Big Ten ended up with Iowa in a division where they wouldn't be traveling outside of their immediate region as much. How many Eastern kids would be interested in coming to Iowa, if you couldn't promise them a game in their area at some point?
