Ok so from the outside looking in here's what I've ascertained from her whole deal.

I think that Emely and Jan just didn't click. They tried but it wasn't gonna work. So she may have tweaked her back some to an extent. So since it wasn't working out and their was a portal window opening Jan didn't want her to immediately hop in it knowing how that'd look. So I think they came to an agreement.

The team would say Emely had a back injury and keep her out the rest of the yr and they'd do whatever they could so she could get a medical RS for the yr and still have 3 yrs to play once she leaves now. In exchange Jan asked her to stay on the team and be a good teammate and don't rock the boat. And keep quiet about it all don't go doing interviews or anything.

Best I can tell that's how it played out anyway. Nobody has a day to day back injury for 3 months and never gets back to practicing or playing. It's either way worse then that or it's BS. The media did a really piss poor job of pushing this story. If I'm missing something or way wrong on this call me out but this whole deal is too bad and not how it shoulda been handled.

Yeah, whatever went down they want to keep it private. First Em-Rod was suspended for some violation , then the story changed to a back injury.

Let me ask you this. What is the difference between normal redshirt rules and a medical redshirt rules. I know kids can play a certain percent of games and can still redshirt. Could EM-Rod just get a normal redshirt?

What exactly did you want the media to do? They asked Jan and she gave her answers. Nothing changed from week to week. And Emely didn't have to talk to the media.

I don't know what happened, but I give Jan and the women's program a lot of benefit of the doubt for looking out for kids' best interest. Maybe it was clear after missing time with the initial back flare-up that Emely wasn't going to play much of a role on this year's team (for whatever reason). And the staff told her she might be able to get the year back, so let's not disclose a whole lot and apply for the redshirt.

At the same time, maybe Jan and the staff convinced Rodriguez and her camp that it was in her best interest to stick out the year at Iowa. Get a free year of school in, collect the money she was being paid, be ready to transfer with a year of stability under her belt.

It's hard to say it wasn't a miss for the coaching staff. They took a swing, it didn't work out. But I tend to think they were pretty committed in looking out for her best interests for the year at that point, and weren't simply making sure "things didn't look bad" for the program.

To me it's always a red flag when some players transfer every year. Players that maybe don't garner $$$$$ like some.

Had Emely left in Dec right after the suspension that wasn't or whatever it was it woulda looked bad for both lets be real... So more then one thing can be true. I don't disagree that it wasn't the best thing for her to have stayed as well. I'm sure that's how Jan sold it to her as they did it.

I just don't like the pee on me and tell me it's raining story Jan tried to sell the whole time. I wasn't buying it as it happened and I don't now that it's been done either. She didn't have some day to day nagging back injury that kept her from practicing and playing for 3 months. Mind you Iowas own admin posted video of Emely riding a bike out in CA while on that road trip. How many people with back injuries are advised to be getting on bikes?

Agree. Its one thing to want to keep it private. That's fine. But don't make things up as a cover story that nobody is buying. Especially if she ends getting a medical redshirt when she easily could have been playing.

With that said, I don't need to know what really happened. If they don't want to talk about it, then they don't need to talk about it.

I remember 20 years ago when I first joined message boards, on of the reason you joined was because you could get the real dirt on behind-the-scenes things. That changed over the years so now we just get this speculation. I miss that part of the old era.

O sis[ect. as many others do, something happened on that Florida trip. ErRod's from the \dr but did spend several years in Florida so she's a least a semi-homey there. Did she hook up with some old friends, party down, stay out all night, who knows, but it would be interesting to find out.

I thought she had an interesting game and could've helped down the stretch.

It will be interesting to learn where she ends up.

Definitely interesting. Sort of hard to believe it would be a single incident like that, though, doesn't it?

It all started to go downhill with the double spin. Things just weren't the same after that. Imo I don't think Emely handles being told anything. Maybe not as much of a team player?

Emely had a double spin move at the end of the Miami game. Could've cost the Hawks the win. I'm sure it didn't sit well with the coaches.

To add on...it was classic "run the shot-clock down" time, but after EmRod came up with a loose ball, she tried to run a one-woman fastbreak, going one on two (or maybe 3?). She ended up doing a spin move, straight into another spin move, and either traveled or threw up a terrible shot.

I would hate to think that one play would have nailed her to the bench for the season, so I am sure there is more too it. It was definitely a head-scratching play, though!

Now they tease it on X and hide it behind paywalls until it gets out to the masses.

1) She no doubt got her ass chewed for a stupid play that could have cost Iowa a win over the then #7 ranked team. Are players these days used to being chewed out? Doubtful. We don't have any idea what her suspension was for -- she could have mouthed off to the coach who chewed her out.

But it's true, things went obviously downhill from then on.

2) From Jensen's interviews, I originally thought it sounded like a classic case of a player getting injured, the team providing treatment and wanting her to come back sooner than her family and 'team' thought she should, resulting in disagreements, bad feelings and ill will.

But that doesn't explain Jensen's comment hedging about whether she was still on the team -- that suggests some deals/paperwork were getting taken care of behind the scenes. It's also possible she threatened to sue the UI for some reason, and as Hawkfnntn suggests above, some agreement was reached to allow her to get a medical redshirt season, continue to get paid for the season, in return for signing some nondisclosure agreement. Who knows. Doubtful anyone on this board ever will.

She had some unique skills that Iowa could have used this season, and in seasons going forward. She's a player.

Wasn't the suspension disputed though? I hesitated to bring that up only because I know one reporter reported it as such but Jan I don't believe ever said she was ever suspended and neither had Emely. I don't think Emely has said 2 words publicly since as far as I know.

Doesn't mean she wasn't suspended just depends on what you believe. I don't know if I ever heard how that reporter supposedly got that info. I highly doubt Jan dropped that to them and then denied it later. Another player or assistant coach maybe? Obviously the reporter won't name their source on something like that if it's even true. Just makes one wonder
