Dolphin v McCaffery family

This story is probably true, but what is the purpose of all these negative posts about the McCaferry family? We get it, Fran and his wife and his sons were not always good sports in their time at Iowa and afterwards and at times they acted like complete A-holes.

But all these stories coming out now just seem petty. Let it go. Move on. And yes Fran and his family should do the same. Let it go. Move on. All they are doing now is burning bridges.

Yes and No.

The Mac clan has brought this on (or out) by continuing to act petty themselves (esp Connor). If they were humble about their time at Iowa and said it was a good run, we're grateful for the years there and where our kids were raised...any variation of that even in some small form...we likely wouldn't be hearing the old stories now.

Yup... The media likely wouldn't have pushed this all out if the McCafferys were even halfway decent people. But they just aren't. They deserve to have the mud slung back in their faces. Murphy had every chance and reason to be as vindictive and mean back to them as anyone and for 8 yrs he didn't say shit. He asked his cronies to not either even though they all wanted to. They treated him with way more respect then he deserved or ever gave others. So I for one am glad the mudslinging is sticking.

The McCafferys didn't fit at Iowa because they have the stereotypical Ivy league east coast elitist entitlement mentality. They thought they were too good for Iowa. They woulda gladly have moved on at any point if Fran coulda taken a step up type of job. But despite what some had said where he had other offers during his tenure none musta been as good or better cause he never left. So they got royally butt hurt when they were forced out not on their terms.

Guys like Keith Murphy don't go looking for a fight, or to dig up old dirt. Iowans (traditionally) are more humble than most, but when someone else throws the first punch or screws with us we'll fight back.

I was curious after reading through the varous accounts and stories, whey wernt' Fran's antics reported on when they happened? wonder if each individual eppisode seemed petty and not news worthy on a stand alone basis?

I'm disapointed ( a little) that CC is marying into that family. The girl probably never dated anyone else..too busy with BB

For the most part, their behavior was kept[ quiet. Now we all know what jack wagons (keeping it clean) they were. Marg was/is the worst of that clan and thankfully they are long gone and back east where people of their ilk belong!

Because it's so f'ing unbelievable. And with people like that with their mind frame, if you don't call them out on it, they just feel they can do it again, and again, and again.

It's absolutely disgusting how they acted and how they didn't think their shit stank.

Exactly. Chad Leistikow had a story at one Hawk event he asked a question to Fran. I can't remember the question, but it didn't sit to well with Fran. Fran got smart and stated to Chad ..... paraphrase, "You're a smart guy aren't you Chad. Where'd you go to college?". He prob knew he graduated from Iowa. I dunno for sure.

But apparently, Marge from the crowd yells out "Well, Fran went to Penn!".

That just tells you there were their minds were at. They thought they were better than everybody else in that room and in Iowa. It's disgusting.

A family of narcissists.

Well said. Just because Barta enabled that doesn't mean the media and fans have to sit quietly and take it.

And here's the deal and what really gets under my skin. They didn't want to do the Hawk events around Iowa or talk with those who supported the program. Fans paid good $$$$ and many traveled for hours to attend b-ball games, and it just seemed like they didn't appreciate it. Those and the media are people I feel bad for. Taking that much crap and they didn't want to really speak with those who supported the team.

Was stated at one Hawk event, it got over and withing 10 min, Fran was sitting in his Suburban in the lot just waiting to leave. Other coaches stuck around talking to people for quite some time after & it was stated Fran stuck around for like 8 minutes talking to a select few then went to the lot and waited for the rest to come out to leave.

Like it or not, PR is a big part of a P4 coaching gig. That's why they make the big bucks.

That's the thing. They get paid millions but don't take the time to rub shoulders with the fans or boosters who pay into and support the program.
Yup and when you compare how Fran was in that regard to the stories we've heard about Ben and how he stays late to talk to everyone (KF does too btw) and helps put away chairs when it's done it just makes it so easy to distinguish the differences between them and what kind of guy you'd want to help invest in. Cause you're right it is an investment from the fans both time and money they put in.

Fran made investing in him tough to even want to do. Hence the apathy at the end. Once the Ws started tailing off their was literally no other reason to do so. If Ben were to hit a tough patch down the road because of how he is fans will still have his back I'll bet.

Nah...

If you do assholey things, you deserve to get called out on it. They deserve the flack. This isn't a black eye on Iowa, it's a much-deserved black eye on FranCo.

This goes beyond not rubbing shoulders, they purposely went out of their way to do shitty things.

If your city council-person does a bunch of shady things but you love the town you live in...do you come out and say, "Nothing to see here, let's move on so it doesn't breed negativity to our town?" Nope. You expose them because they should be exposed.

Because Fran (and Marge by association) held power over them. Look what happened to Rob Howe when he stuck to his guns and reported what he thought...it's one of the reasons I really respect that guy even if I don't agree with 100% of what he thinks. He got his entire career blown up because he didn't toe the line.

Can't fault the reporters for doing what they did...they have families to provide for and if they get railroaded they don't have millions of dollars in the bank to fall back on like Fran, Kirk, Marge, Wallace, Barta, and so on...
