Does FB or MBB Finish Higher in the Conference in '26-'27?

Basketball

Too many unknowns with the quarterback and D-line. Right now they have a couple of walk-ons on the 2-deep on the d-line. I just can’t see them getting beyond the 9-3/8-4 range.

IMO, the basketball team has the potential to have a better regular season this year than last year.

False. Let's drop this fantasy. Indiana's defender got past both of our lineman. Freeze it at 40:22 He didn't hit the pass, but it was far from a sure thing if he had. Most likely Moulton is dropped in his tracks
False. He got by both linemen because they set it up for Moulton to go the inside. The presnap read shows press coverage (man-to man). The OLB is showing blitz. If he backs off, he's an easy target for the guard and the center would get the MLB which means the tackle would chip the DE and would lead with the guard. The center would just have to shield the MLB and lock on. Still 2 OL blocking the man in coverage with an alley. Because the OLB blitzed, the tackle would block his inside gap (closest threat) and the RB would chip the DE on his way to the inside flat. The difference between this and zone would be that the OLB could have the inside flat and the CB could have the flat coverage if they're in cover 2, which would make sense (if they're in zone), expecting a short pass. When they read man coverage, that makes it easy. If he is just showing man and is in flat coverage, the responsibility doesn't change much. The WR stalks the CB and the center (it would definitely be a blitz) would keep his eyes on the next level in case he needs to combo.

No matter what, the play is going to the inside unless the OLB sucks inside which means the RB could walk to the 1st down marker.

It's all hypothetical. It didn't happen. Bad, hurried pass...no doubt. But the play was far from perfect and a sure thing. It's not like the sure 15 yard TD pass that McNamara (or was it Gronowski?) threw into the ground when our receiver was alone in the end zone.

I'm no fanboy for Brown, who knows how he'll pan out. I want the best QB on the field (like all of us). But blaming that loss on him is silly.

It is, of course, not fair to judge Brown on that one play. We don't have much to judge either QB. I will say that Brown's tape at Auburn was not terrific. He did ok against bad competition but was embarrassed by an average Arkansas squad. What little we have seen at Iowa in game and scrimmage have been okay. I just feel like a special QB just doesn't muff that throw so badly. As you might have guessed, I am a Hecklinski guy. :) I want a mobile QB who can make plays, even if he is undersized.

I want someone who thrives to win !! Good Bad or Ugly it doesnt matter. I'd guess Heck has that reputation from the recruiting stand point or opinions of him. We'll have to see how the fall works out , I'm even open to The Freshman from Utah getting a shot... Always wanted a 4 year legacy guy (doubt that will ever happen) I know KF never does that but if someone jumps ahead let them play and learn .

KF has never had a 4 year starter, but that probably is never going to happen almost anywhere in today's NIL world. But, KF has had what, 4 3-year starters? So, he is open to starting a younger guy if he is ready and the upper classman are not better.

If our QB plays ugly, we will not win. We do not have the 2023 defense or the West schedule, so another Deacon Hill at QB might lead to a 4-win season.

I'm heading up to Iowa City this weekend for #2's graduation.
#3 made his decision a few weeks ago. I will fork over out-of-state tuition for another 8 semesters, so I'm now extra invested for another 4 years.

So I stupidly read all the spring game writeups and put on the glasses and drank the Kool-Aid.
This is a big one boys. It's all planned. The money is lined up. The moneybags wanna send out Kirk on a high note. We'll finish the season ranked 14th with an emerging quality QB and the money will flow. Setting up a preseason 2027 ranking at #12 with an unexpected finish winning the.whole.damn.thing. Strap in fellas.

I'm so screwed. I promised I would never....ever get my hopes up and just enjoy what we get. Even when it's warranted. And if it comes to warrants, no judge is signing off on any of this.

The one part of your post I really agree with is next season. We only have 10 seniors and none of them are really all that noteworthy. With a manageable schedule to start and on the back end, I could see this being an 8 win team and bring pretty much everyone back with the hopes of KF getting a big send off.

Did you realize that Hecklinski was born in Helsinki

Wasn't it Brown who tossed an ill advised pass, while surrounded by defenders, to a receiver who was
surrounded by defenders

Of course, it was an interception

Always wondered why we didn't run two/three plays for a few yards and simply kick a field goal with
the game clock winding down

For the win over the National Champs last season
