And why?
May is a slow month. Let's fabricate some discussion. This seems like a 50/50 type response to me.

Given that we have never won a conference title in MBB in any of our lifetimes (unless we got some real old timers on here), and haven't won an outright title in FB since 1985, me thinks you might be a bit too enthusiastic, but I like where your head is at!Is there anything higher than first?
I would almost flip those. A lot of pundits are high on the FB team, and I hope that faith is warranted, but there are a lot of question makes to answer to get to 5th. That said, the schedule is favorable.Football 5th
Men's BBall 8th
Me too. Freshman at Iowa in 69-70MBB. 1970. And I remember actually!
On that much we agree, but it wasn't the question. The answer is WBB
Funny back in the day when there were actually 10 Big 10 teams, finishing in top 3 in b-ball and top 1-2 in football would be a great year. Now with 18, just getting in the upper 1/3rd of both seems to be a win.I would almost flip those. On MBB, I feel like Ben has built a team that is better equipped to compete in the conference slog. Losing Stirtz is a killer for sure, but this team will be deeper, more balanced, and overall more Big 10 ready talent. Last year it sort of felt that Stirtz was super human, we would win, and often times he was. I think this year's version will be more balanced and competitive night in and out.
I will go:
MBB 5th
Football 6th
Agreed. It makes the goal of actually winning a conference title almost impossible to consider. Kind of sad because that used to be a realistic goal that a good Iowa team could set for itself. I wish the conference with go to 20 and break into two divisions or even better, go to 4 divisions of 5. Give all the teams something to shoot for.Funny back in the day when there were actually 10 Big 10 teams, finishing in top 3 in b-ball and top 1-2 in football would be a great year. This is pretty much where my head is at. Both teams finish around the Top 3rd in the conference, but MBB goes further in the post season. With a huge 18 team conference now, regular season titles really do not mean anything anymore. The schedules are just not even across the board for the teams, in either sport.
So, I'll submit this:
The goal in football is to make the 12 team playoffs.
The goal in basketball is to make the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.
This year, basketball won out: Elite 8 v. no playoffs for the football team.
My prediction for next year: Football misses the playoffs but gets a bowl bid as a consolation prize.
I'm predicting Ben makes the Sweet 16 again.
So, basketball does better than football.
Yep, getting rid of Divisions was a stupid decision as far as fan involvement.Agreed. It makes the goal of actually winning a conference title almost impossible to consider. How much?!?!!? Come on man, we're all anonymous here and we gotta know. Or better yet what percentage of your monthly income whether from a job or monthly retirement withdrawal?Don't have any idea where either team will finish in the conference, but yesterday I put a few bucks down on the football Hawks to win more than 7.5 games, so THAT's the number I'll be paying attention to this coming season!
Um, there may be too much of a wildcard to make a bet with your own money, but you can make a prediction on an anonymous message board!Too much of a wildcard at QB to make any kind of football prediction. Neither of these guys has ever played a single snap of college football that meant anything. Both of 'em have an equal chance to be the next Marco Lainez or the next CJ Beathard.
