Congratulations Iowa MBB

Best sports time of the year- given ladies BB, 4 games in 5 days! And despite what the E(sec)PN bubble watch says, last nights game should have locked up a tourney appearance for the Men.....

Iowa is currently 26 in the NET. That metric would put them at a 7 seed. A nothing win, a Quad 1 win, and a Quad 1 loss would seem likely to push up Iowa in the NET. At least two slots seems very likely. They might need to go 1-1 in the conference tourney as well.

Don't sleep on the Michigan game. Strange things happen in Carver sometimes.

6 is possible
7 would be great
8-9 seems most likely

That's sort of where I land. 2-1 and 1-1 to get to a 6. The group in the mix for 6-8 are fairly soft. Wisconsin losing to Oregon helped.

Let me play the devil's advocate for a minute...

Where to we end up if we finish the season 3-0, and lose a rematch to Michigan in the 4th round of the BTT?

I played with the simulator, and if we go 3-0, UCLA also has to go 3-0 to bump us up to the Michigan line. Odds of both of us closing out 3-0 are pretty remote.....but just saying, if that happens, and we end up in round 4 against Michigan and getting beat, I still think a compelling case for 6, but no less than 7, is in our future.

Um, we split with Michigan, beat Nebbie again, and assuredly would also have a Quad 1 and Quad 2 win on the way to the finals in the conference tourney? We would be a quasi-national story going into that Michigan game as one of the hottest teams in the country. The metrics seem to like us more than the polls, and the committee works off of the metrics. I think we end up a 5 seed with that finish, could scare a 4.

Heck, I think UCLA is more likely to go 0-3 than 3-0...not that either is probable. They don't have an easy finish. If that happens, we will almost assuredly be the #7 seed in the conference tournament just going 1-2 down the stretch. Almost no way we are not at least the #8 if we take care of business vs PSU on Saturday.

Way to go Coach first 20 win season since 20-21 season . LGH LGH LGH!!!!
First coach since Mr. Davis to win 20 or more in his first season here. Difference being Coach George left him a full cupboard and Coach Ben had a mass exodus before he showed up.

Imagine if we had today's rules back then and nearly everyone bolted and the 30-5 season never happened. :(

And replaced em with D2 and Drake mid major guys mostly.. It's pretty funny when you look at what DeVries did to revamp IU with the $ he has to work with and what Ben has done.... There's almost no comparison frankly Iowa's got the right guy

The BTT is fun and all, but over the years I've started to discount its impact on seeding. I think the committee likes to have teams pretty much locked in by late that week, certainly by the weekend. It's not that a team can't move up or down, but it doesn't "feel" like that usually happens.

I think Iowa needs to go 2-1 in these next three to get to a six seed. Anything short of that, and I think it might take a run to Sunday's championship game to get there. These things don't happen in a vacuum, so who knows. But if 1-2, I think they'll have a really hard time getting up to a 6 (or maybe even a 7).

Michigan clinched the B1G last night vs Illinois and has their rival Michigan State to close the regular season. I see an opportunity to steal a win and who knows how much certain players will play and what their mindset would be.

I'm more concerned with Penn State and the early start. We historically don't play well there and that is a dead environment where the juice will have to be self provided. A defensive effort similar to Nebraska or Ohio State would help.

Your concern was warranted. I'm not sure why but we don't seem to be able to play defense on the road like we do at home. I get it if your shooting is off but defense should travel.

This game gave them a bit of pride for the season, an abysmal one for certain

Image that, a win against the Hawkeyes makes their season somewhat legitimate

I pity Michigan suffering the wrath of an outraged Hawkeye team

Penn state attacked us like Wisconsin did. They didn't quite have a Nick Boyd type player but had a week to watch that game tape and get some good work in. And they had come close at home in early starts vs other teams this year. And playing there is like playing in a library.

What blows my mind is that Ohio State didn't do the same with Thornton. He is much better than any of Penn State's guards. Perhaps their hot start from outside on Wednesday lulled them into a false sense of security.

In any case the Penn state loss stings, but getting Ohio State was the big one. That was a two game swing in terms of BTT seeding. If we had to go 1-1 for the week we got the big one for the win.

I will take another 1-1 week and think we will. Michigan has little to play for this week, lost their point guard, and has their in state rival to close the regular season. And we have owned Nebraska in the Hoiberg era, including last year on a senior night.
