CBS Ranks Iowa OL 9th Nationally

It's a nice writeup but like you, I haven't seen anyone predict Wilson as a starter. It makes me question the rest of the article. So many of these preseason prognostications are garbage. Maybe this guy has done his homework but it is difficult to tell.

There are a lot of question marks going into this season. One of the biggest is what are we going to have at the QB position. What's our backfield going to be like. Do we have any speedsters at the wide out positions?
Yet you have to feel good about the improvement's we have seen under Lester. He could be one of the better OC's we have had in Iowa City in quite a long time. He is now just beginning to bring in his type of players and recruits and time will only tell what we have this years and the upcoming future years.

That's what makes this upcoming season intriguing............ not knowing............. especially at the QB position. I haven't followed that position closely enough to know if the guys competing for that position are all Lester recruits, or a mix of Lester and Brian recruits. Personally, I hope they are mostly Lester guys or at least have been coached up by him.

From here on out it's Lester's baby and he will have to own where this program goes offensively. Thus far I believe we are moving in the right direction. Thus far the offensive line looks promising.

The three QBs in the mix were all brought in by Lester in the last two years. I agree that the BF stank is gone. This is fully Lester's offense now.

I also agree that the offensive line has a chance to be really good again. Hard to equal last year's success as the best OL in the country, but still really good.

Lauck/Pieper: Are Pro(s)

Myslinski: According to people that know…super talented, injury proned, 6th year guy, see what we get.

Jones/Dotzler: We have gotten a taste, not sure how it translates into a full season.

The potential OL starters are all 4th, 5th, and 6th year guys…barring injuries, I am expecting the O-line to be really good.

Thanks for this post. This sounds really encouraging. If our line is good this year, AND we get decent QB play, we may actually have more playmakers to get the ball to this year, I think.

Huh, I was under the impression the OL was rebuilding this year.
Two things can be true at the same time. Yes, we are replacing three drafted OL from a team that won the Moore award. But, the two returning guys have the potential to be first rounders, and play the two most important positions on the OL (center and LT). As mentioned by others, you have three guys that have taken significant snaps as rotation guys at Iowa, and a talented transfer with experience at a lower level, plus a lot of guys who have been in the system for a couple years pushing for PT. So, most people are seeing more of a reload versus a rebuild. KF and Barnett have earned that type of respect, nationally. We shall see.

Gennings Dunker should be the prototype for every Iowa OL from now until the apocalypse. No exceptions, no substitutes.

1) Every O-lineman will receive by registered mail a prepaid Culver’s gift card with a balance of $10k to start the year and will be provided .5 gallons of coffee to be drank per day, split into 3 sessions before/during/after practices and games. Culver’s gift card only redeemable by the person whose name appears on it, and must have a balance remaining after the season less than $50.

2) Mullet required to be no shorter than 12” below the nape of the neck (preferably Dutch Boy paint color code “Gloss Copper Flame”), and a mustache not to extend past the edge of, nor below the upper lip, color matched to mullet.

3) Tattoos shall be of type “Full Sleeve” and contain lions, one or more American flags, barbed wire, and respectful reverence of O-lineman’s mother. Allow room for expansion upon the first year completion of Coach Braithwaite’s physical training regimen, paid for by the University and in an Iowa City tattoo parlor only. Tattoo parlors which have done ISU artwork in the past are excluded from consideration.

4) Honey Stinger waffles will be provided in bulk weekly by Amazon delivery to dormitory, player is responsible for informing Iowa Football staff of preferred flavor.

5) Prospective applicants are required to enter the Solon Beef Days Hay Bale Toss as high school seniors for evaluation, and must place within the top 10 not counting present Iowa football players. After selection, OL players will continue to enter each year and must not place below any current non-Iowa football player. Failure to meet this yearly standard will result in scout team placement and possible scholarship revocation. This contest is meant to convey extreme badassery to the rest of the country, as well as serving as community outreach by energizing fans and inciting oversized children to pursue careers as Iowa offensive linemen.

6) T-shirts shall be size large only, and upgraded moped shocks will be provided at the expense of the University for use by players cruising around town being awesome, for purposes of marketing as well as fan engagement/interaction. Mullet shall be DOT-rated for use without a helmet and to promote health/proper drying of hair.
