Can we beat the Bruins?...thread

Post Mort em Comments.

UCLA was extraordinarily good and Iowa was extraordinarily bad. Every shot UCLA took seem to find a way into the basket. Every shot IOWA took seem to find a way out.

Some Iowa players have been fighting respiratory problems, Heiden and Stulke were two. Stulke's elbow injury didn't help her shooting. Stulke is usually the fastest player on the floor and she was struggling to keep up with the pace.

You just have to accept that UCLA with 6 seniors and as large as they are formidable. I don't think any team could have beat them on Sunday.

I think Jan Jensen felt Iowa wasn't in condition to press UCLA. UCLA had some problems with Ohio States press on Saturday. Iowa's quickness wasn't there on on Sunday to even try.

This team is good enough to make the elite 8 if it can get rested and healthy.

I would say the odds are pretty good Iowa makes the sweet 16, especially if you consider the first 2 games of the tourney will be at sold out Carver Hawkeye Arena. The seniors on the team should help the team not get too over confident. And after that lopsided affair against UCLA, Iowa should be plenty humble going forward.

The only thing that could get in the way is if Iowa plays a team that shoots like Minnesota did against Iowa. Otherwise making the Sweet 16 is pretty much expected. After that everything is bonus. As long as Iowa is not in UCLA's or UConn's bracket, Iowa has an outside chance of making it to the final 4 but that's probably a stretch with such a young team,

At the start of the season, it looked like Iowa would be a legit 10-deep, and the challenge seemed to be finding everyone minutes.

The season got away from Hayes...I think she has a bright future, but she has just not been able to adjust to B1G competition. I think she is a future All-B1G player, more Monika Czinano than Addie O'Grady, but not this year.

Emiley Rodriguez was lost almost immediately to injury/other stuff. She is such a unique talent, I really hope this year has endeared her to Iowa BB, and we can see her fully unleashed next year. Hard to feel confident in that, in this day and age.

Taylor McCabe...damn. She had made herself into such a good, all-around player to compliment her 3-pt shooting.

Addie Deal...up and down, hopefully a bright future.

As it turns out, we get to this point in the season, and we are only about 6.5 deep. Journey plays an important role off the bench. Addie eats minutes across the backcourt, but we struggle whenever one of Chat/Fuerbach/Stremshow are off the court. The only silver-lining of the attrition is I don't think Stremshow would have emerged like she had if McCabe wouldn't have been injured, and Addie might not be getting any minutes at all right now. Both of those developments will pay off, next year.

But it sure would be fun if this team had a healthy McCabe and Rodriguez. We would be deeper, more versatile, and would have more offensive firepower. C'est la vie...still a dangerous team capable of making an exciting run!

Saw one projected bracket we were in S Carolina as the 1 seed. I am good with that. I don’t want to see UCLA again except on their highlights against some other poor victim

Until they face Uconn in the final.

I also hope Rodriguez sticks around, they need someone like her who is aggressive in getting her shots.
